hi guys, question time, I'm going to look at a P reg V8 tonight, i've done my research but still have a few more questions,

I know the body is prone to rot on the sills, boot, inner wings, crossmembers, is there anywhere else i need to look?

Servicing, how often should i service the oil, air and fuel systems?

how can i keep the beast from rotting once i've bought it?

Thanks in advance

Rob

My advice, only buy it if the corrosion is manageable. Body rust is the D1's Achilles heal, so much so when I was looking I struggled to find one that wasn't a rotting hell hole and ended up with a D2.

As for servicing, regular like all vehicles is best. Take a look at filters, do they look like they've been changed or are they covered in ****. Basic servicing is so cheap and easy it's almost in excusable!

What's the guy asking for it?

As u understand the mechanical side now check the electrical items are functioning as they should, external lighting, windows. wipers and their delay function, security system etc, you wont see much happening with the heated screen/s without a bit of frost, so u will have to take their word for them working as they should..:)

Corrosion. Whats that :D

Don't expect the cruise to work, they rarely do and who needs it anyway! Easy fix if you must have it, usually corroded pipes, never bothered myself.

You don't say how far away it is, but take five hundred quid or so for fuel money getting it home.

well i picked her up today she needs a clean up bodyworks faded, i spent most of the afternoon wiring up the spots and beacon, and cleaned the underside ready for the waxoil and underbody sealant, she's booked in at my local garage for a new box section for the o/s sill £80 for the box and labor :) theres some rust on the other sill and inner wing but neither need replacing i've bought some rust treatment for those areas so it looks like a busy week sanding, grinding and painting, glad we've got lighter nights now
