I just purchased, via the internet, a new ABS pump. It was in the original box and is sealed in heavy foil suitable for a military field replaceable part. Attached to the foil is a label saying it must be installed by week 42 of 2007.

I have never seen an expiration date on auto parts. Did I purchase a usable part or an anchor for a small boat?

The Mil Specs state that a usable shelf life is given to every single component to ensure that the most current revision is used at all times and to ensure that when it is needed it will work.....

Us civies don't get such nicities....unless you are buying certain oil seals which may come with use by dates....

And if it had have been would probibly still be working fine. Military have overhaul dates for all mechanical equipement. Fit it, it should be fine.
