Hi.

I am looking for some advice. My dad needs to use an electric scooter after an accident with a bull (no bull!). He has bought an early defender for getting across fields and I need to find a hoist that will lift the scooter in.

Has anyone any advice?

All retail outlets are quoting £1000+ but on eBay they are around £300ish.

Thanks in advance.

Oh. If this makes any difference. It’s a ragtop.

He is very lucky to be alive. Many people who have accidents with bulls don't survive.

Have you considered an aluminium ramp, you could make it fold up with an electric motor. Access boats for the disabled use a system like that.

Cheers turbo. No to be honest. I didn’t think there would be space in a swb for the ramps and scooter. If you know where these can be bought from it would help a lot.

The ramps fold up vertical, so they would occupy space outside the load area.
Sorry, I don't know offhand where they can be bought, but I have seen them on the access boats, so wheelchairs and mobility scooters can get on and off.

There are a few disable vehicle adaption sites but you will come up against insurance and cost. Is your dad able to get in the driver seat but need the scooter in the back. Pending the scooter weight you could adapt a spare tyre swingaway and weld a frame to hold a hand winch or powered winch by remote control.
If he struggles to clamber in you could make wooden step box 2x2x1 feet and store that.

I was assuming that one man operation was essential.

If it isn't, there are countless lightweight folding ramps that just prop up and hook onto the back of the vehicle, and are then removed by the assistant.
