what can i expect to get from a 110 fitted with a 300 tdi on a motorway run?

i have a feeling quoted figures may not be all that accurate!

One of the mags tested them all recently, the 300 was better than the TD5s that only did around 25.
I'll see if I can find the article.

coolio. well i have just had someone ask to have some stuff i am selling delivered - to north yorkshire. 520 mile round trip so i have quoted him £80 delivery which seems right

My TD5 is averaging 27mpg but around town its more like 25mpg. I reckon its probably nearer to 30mpg on a run at about 60mph. Much less if I get carried away with the old lead foot syndrome.
I tought you had yours chipped, more power and better mpg?

Yes it is chipped, bigger intercooler, full bore exhaust, turbo wound up a tad, no egr, etc.

Defo more power and torque. MPG was initially better than standard but now I've got used to the acceleration I tend to use it which has a negative effect on mpg. Also I find myself charging along at or around 70 mph on more occassions which with a full roof rack also dont do me any favours mpg-wise. When er indoors drives it I reckon it is doing well over 30mpg.

It's never going to be a contender for the most fuel efficient motor but it's what it is. A square block of steel with little concern for aerodynamics. It is doing more than double what my old petrol 4.0lt Jeep Cherokee used to do. I'm also running it on home brew fuel which helps ease the pain.

Yes Im sure I would do the same with the extra power. As it stands mine is capable of 90 mph but she is much happer at 60 and a lot quieter.

How much difference do you think a roof rack makes? I have a full length rack on my 110 and consistently get 24 MPG on a motorway run at about 60 or 65MPH, engine is 200tdi. If I can expect to get 30MPG without the roof rack I think I'll be taking it off when its not in use.

my 20 year old 110, with a 200 in it is doing about 34 to the gallon now, i've never dared work out the MPG but as i've just fitted a disco tranny box i am interested to see the difference - and that's got a full length rack on and plenty of stuff in the back that doesnt need to be there

yeah,bout 30 ish in my 200tdi

Ok, this is what has actually happened to me; no eco bull; no financial expert sales patter...

In my TD5 110 I drive 250m per week (1000m p/m). This has cost me around;
£200 a month at 70mph
£180 a month at 60mph
£160 a month at 50mph

I've trialled this and to me its £40 in my back pocket! A pain in the b/side for lorries doing 55+ but its my money.

Obviously for this £40 there's a pay-off; time taken to destination.
What would normally be a 40 min drive through typical moderate morning traffic at 40-70mph, is now taking 50 mins at 40-50mph
Worth it?
