Picked up a Freelander 1 Auto (2005) today. Getting used to it and all seemed fine and dandy but at journey’s end after some city and country driving it started ‘hopping’ at very low speed, i.e in Drive or Reverse without accelerator pressure. Fairly sure it wasn’t leaving the handbrake on...

Everything else seems good (apart from maybe having the sunroof looked at...).

Any ideas massively appreciated!

Above is good advice.
Not sure I understand what the vehicle is doing, is the car surging forwards intermittently with no throttle?
Does the engine rev up randomly in neutral?

Thanks for replying - So what happened is that coming up to a roundabout, as I braked to a stop the car started to jolt or jump continuously, and continued to do so whilst it was in drive and under brakes ( for a couple of seconds) until I moved off again and picked up speed.

Then it happened again when I braked/slowed to park, using drive and reverse and braking.

I didn’t notice random revving in neutral but will test tomorrow.

I still don't understand what it's doing from the description.
Does it only do it when the brakes are applied?

Thanks for trying to help . That’s a good question and I will have to double-check tomorrow, but yes as far as I can recall from today the brakes were being applied in both cases.

At the roundabout as brakes were applied and the car started to slow to a stop, the jumping started.

Then, when parallel parking and applying brakes when the car was under power in Drive or Reverse it did the jumping again.

This was after the car behaving fine over approx 35 miles from London - city driving and motorway.

Maybe a short video might help if I can film it tomorrow?

As I’m new to this crazy Freelander journey I think I might take in to a local Land Rover specialist (John Dennis). Naturally on a cold start today to just park it a bit closer to my house it didn’t do the weird jumping/jolting...

The Freelander fun and games continued today with a flat battery and a host of dashboard lights. Am determined to sort this all out so I can have some fun driving it!
