As was mentioned by Daft in yur uvva fred, early 300tdi motors had a tendancy to eat timing belts due to some misalignment. I would say this is very good evidence that yurs is/was misaligned.

looks like the result of an 'Old' style cam belt drive pulley. where there were no shoulders on the drive pulley and the belt would wander...the newer ones had shoulders on the pulley to prevent this happening.
does you drive pulley have shoulders? if so it's been upgraded at some time and those score marks are from the first time, if not Refit with the upgraded kit.
