Hi does any one know what the towing ang noseweight limits of a 1999 1.8 xei 5 door freelander?? didnt get any handbooks so cant checkem and cant seem to find any on here thanks

The L series is good for 2000Kg braked trailer weight. I'm guessing the 1.8 is the same. However, I wouldn't try it personally. The K series engine is under enough stress as it is. I used to pull about 1000Kg with a 1.6 Picasso and that was HARD work. What is it you're dragging? Trailer or Caravan?

Thats very deceiving as people assume they can tow a 2 tonne caravan or trailer with no problems which isn't the case.

The 2.0 Xedi has a kerbweight of 1550 kgs so the ideal max to tow is about 1,320 kgs (roughly 85%). You can go above that but expect it to start getting a fair bit lairy once you reach 100%+. I towed a caravan weighing 1,410 kgs (91%) and the car plodded with it ok - but you could feel the van moving the car about a bit.

The 1.8i has a slightly lower kerbweight - 1,495kgs so you would be looking at an ideal weight of upto 1,270 kgs.

If you are towing a caravan you can get specific details here: What TowCar.com - test your car and caravan outfit

From memory the 2.0Xedi noseweight was 140kgs or thereabouts. That helped with towing as a bit of extra weight at the front of the van helped stability.
As has been suggested checking the Rave manual will confirm this for the 1.8i.

HTH.

Hi thanks for that anyone know where i can get some handbooks for a 99 freelander?????? I will be towing a caravan with a max weight of 1150kgs thanks Ps where would i download the rave manual from thanks

Whatever you are towing make sure you have alot of nose weight, I once towed a trailer with a car on it that I loaded in a hurry. It was to far back on the trailer and the thing jackknifed on me at 60 MHP on a motor way. It only straightened up when one of the front wheels of the trailer ripped off, moving the centre of gravity forwards which put some noseweight on the thing.(Frightened the c**p out of me)
