1994 RRC 3.9 Auto gear change

Hi all, this is my first post, hope someone can help

I've recently bought a '94 RR Classic 3.9 Auto

I've got a query on the gearchange in that it never changes up into top until I hit 53mph or thereabouts. , however, regardless of gradient, throttle position etc, as soon as my speed drops below 53mph it changes back down a gear....... this could be that I'm coasting along on the flat with foot off the gas and "bingo", changes down into 3rd under 53 .

Anyone have any similar happenings ?

or do they all behave the same ?

Check the cable setup to make sure that the gap is correct by the throttle body. From what I remember, the gearbox locks into an overdrive type setup at around the speed you mention but there shouldnt be an obvious change as such. What revs are you getting through normal driving and gear changes?

everything else feels and sounds sweet as a nut

pootling round town and it will change up anywhere from 1500 - 2500rpm

open road in welly mode and it changes fine and revs as high as i want it to

it does feel as if it's an overdrivey change up/down

its just that round town at 35-40mph in 3rd it feels and sounds it should be changing up

Sounds about right to me, at least mine does that exactly too. The torque converter locks up at 54 making the engine a bit more effiecent. Youll nudge into the middle twenties on mpg on a long motorway run.Very economical,

Same as that. You know when you're cruising at just over 50mph because you feel the box lock up dropping the revs (handy when your speed transducer drops out!). I get about 23/4mpg on longer motorway runs too.

23/24 mpg, can't wait,

looks like i'll be flying round town at 54mph from now on .......... anyone know anywhere to buy that anti-flash number plate spray on the cheap ?
