I've got some Black hammerite smooth I was gonna use.

And every thing on it is pikied Legs were off a old bunk bed and the handles are made from M8 threaded bar that I scrounged ages ago. the flat steel plate came out a skip.

Putting a short piece of box section in the back with a adjustable flap to control air flow.

On the subject of DIY, you ever seen a highlift used to split logs, and think it possible to make a dodah to do the job.

Nope But I've seen an hydraulic log splitter and the principle is basically the same. All you'd need to turn the high lift into a log splitter is a wedge that could be slid over the ladder rack and bolted in place. & maybe a wider base plate to help keep it all steady whilst in use.
