Had to smile today whilst sitting in my non-LR waiting for 'ere indoors to return to the car park.
Young Dad approaches E-Joke with shopping & small child in the trolley, as he approaches the vehicle the tailgate magically raises all on it's own, but as Dad starts to lift the first bags from the trolley the TG starts downwards towards his head. After three attempts to get the thing to stay up blondie gets out of the driving seat & has to hold the TG open. As all the occupants remount it's realised that the offending piece of bodywork hasn't latched shut, so a dismount is needed to slam the thing shut.

What were we saying about expensive toys that are good when they work

These electronic tailgates are all well and good, makes life easier if you're unable to easily reach to pull it down to close yourself, so why did they think it was a good idea to put the button on the tailgate and just as hard to press when it's up in the air?
Defeats the point?

My wife is 5 foot nothing, she manages the P38 tailgate no problem:p

Mines a bit shorter than that well under 5 foot and has to stand on the tow bar to reach:D
wife normally drives a bmw estate she struggles with that, to make it worse son bought a newer bmw estate and that has the electric tailgate and all i get is can i have one like that:rolleyes:

A pull cord attached to the upper tailgate is more reliable than an electric tailgate with less to go wrong:rolleyes:

One of my brothers had Ford something or other with self close/open tailgate. Useless for putting dogs in as it sensed the dogs moving and kept opening and wouldn't close, useless. He bought it as a tow car too, useless at that aswell

The best ones are The ones on top of the cab on a 11 car transporter backed on and it comes open making your load 20ft high

My Classics talegate would open of its own accord when you hit ramps in the supermarket carpark, that was a nice thoughtful feature..:D
Might of been the rear crossmember that was rotten and allowing the rear wings to flex in and out, but eh features are features!!

My P38 was lethal with bad struts, new ones and past 1/4 it opens of its own accord!!

I'll never forget seeing someone with a Mercedes IIRC which has a sensor under the bumper that you wave your foot under, i watched a middle aged numpty with a handful of shopping try and wave one foot under there, he lost his footing and fell arse over tit..

I didn't laugh..

Honest! ;)

Brother-in-law has a Volvo XC60, came down from his cabin on the Roscoff ferry to put his wife's overnight bag in the back..Mr Volvo didn't like it and kept opening and closing on its own. Emptied the whole ferry before he got it sorted and even then he had to tie it down with a belt, to get off before it could sort it out in the car park.

Oh I would have. Honest;)

If you remove the rams from the P38 tailgate that becomes a self closing unit. When the latch fails because of this it also self opens. But does need lifting and holding up with a suitable piece of wood.:D

'Ah yes, the old broom-handle method … not a lot to go wrong ;)
