M25 - Digital speed cameras go live!

Found this out from the plod:


From the 15th February 08 all the Speed Cameras in the Variable Speed Limit section of the M25 near Heathrow Airport (JCT 10-15) are going Digital and the activation limit is being lowered.

They are currently the older film type cameras and Set at 90mph when the Variable Limit Signs are not in operation.

The new digital cameras are going to be set at the normal 10% 0f the speed limit + 2mph (80mph + and you're taking a risk basically) when the signs are not in use i.e. national speed limit. I can't confirm the activation limit when the signs are set (variable limits showing) but believe it would be the same 10% + 2mph of the speed shown by the sign at that time.

I think that might be considered to be fly-tipping, and even worse, EPA might get annoyed and accuse you of polluting the river with toxic metals.

So, despite the merits of your inventive suggestions, it may not be a technique that we should encourage.

That bastid clicker tor one is responsible for the only blemish on my otherwise spotless license - it got nicked so they positioned a self important policeman with a hairdryer there instead in an unexpected location and the bugger got me!!! (that were just over three year ago now so hopefully i can get rid of the "blemish"!)

It was just up from there, i got em to send me a photo of me speeding which they did and there was a fookin motorbike overtakin me in the pic, bastids!!! I got done at 84, which from experience i know is a mile an hour under the D&C recommendation for a ticket. Like i said BASTIDS!!!

Only 354 of 90,000 police caught on camera speeding or jumping red lights last year were punished.

Last night forces were accused of double standards after it emerged that only one in 200 officers was fined or given points, compared with 84 per cent of ordinary drivers.
In a quarter of the cases the police cars had their blue lights flashing, suggesting officers were attending an emergency.
However, nearly all of the rest had the slate wiped clean by senior police, saving them from three points on their licence and a £60 fine.
Managers have the discretion to cancel tickets if an officer can persuade them they had a good reason for speeding, such as pursuing a suspect or trying to find a witness.
But critics point out motorists enjoy no such rights and that if they want to challenge a fixed penalty notice they must go to court.
They also say the disparity between the figures raises the suspicion that thousands of officers are being let off even if they do not have a valid excuse for speeding.
Dianne Ferreira, spokesman for road safety charity Brake, said: "Police officers should not be speeding in the first place.
"They should be setting an example and they should have to face the force of the law like everybody else when they break the rules.

Last time i got nicked it were for 99.98 MPH on the M4 at 11PM.
Cause i was doing down the slow lane and not being a prat they did me for SP50 "Exceeding speed limit on a motorway" 3 pts and £60 if i admit it there and then.
I jumped at it cause they had me on a vid.

Nigh on hundred is the key, there's an automatic ban at 100 so coz there's a shedload of extra paperwork and cost to banning (through prosecution), if you're doing about a hundred it will usually be just under if it's borderline to save this.

its not automatic ban at 100.

basically if you are doin more than 30mph OVER the speed limit (so 100 on motorway, 60 through a 30....etc) it will go to court rather than just havin an on the spot fine and points.

chances are when it does go to court they will ban you though
