hi all, before I start buying can some kind sole tell me if I am on the right track with the latest issues please. Will keep it brief. new heavy duty battery new 120amp alternator battery goes flat after a couple of days poss rf receiver? rebuilt key fob new buttons and batteries re sync ok now progressed to "enter key code" msg which it will not except engine disabled ,alarm light constantly flashing .all the doors will open apart from passenger front which seems to be dead locked, would this be a knackered micro switch? or has anyone got a better idea as to what's going on:)

Is this a P38? Would help if you told us.
What diagnostics have you had done & what were the results?

I am not the expert in this but in my experience if EKA code is not accepted, then it is often due to not entering it carefully enough.

The process for doing EKA entry is as follows.
Do it slowly and carefully, don't try to set a bloody speed record. If you know you have cocked it up, open and close the drivers door and start all over again. Otherwise you will get locked out for 30 minutes.

Start.....key turned to locked & back to vertical four times. <<Tells the BecM you are now going to enter the EKA Code>
Then <1st digit> entered in the unlocked (clockwise) direction and back to vertical and no further...for each time.
Then <2nd> digit entered in the locked (anti-clockwise) direction and back to vertical and no further...for each time.
Then <3rd> digit entered in the unlocked (clockwise) direction and back to vertical and no further...for each time.
Then <4th> digit entered in the locked (anti-clockwise) direction and back to vertical and no further...for each time.
Finally, Turn once to unlocked and all the doors should unlock and the car "should" be re-mobilised.
It is very important to make sure you deliberately and carefully execute each key-turn AND back to vertical (and no further).
The doorlock contacts do go dodgy with age & use.
The flashing of the side-repeaters or the dashboard lamp (depending on how the system was set up) are your only indications that your entries are being seen.
If they are not consistently being seen then you will need a Nanocom to re-mobilise the engine.

have used it successfully in the past but this time it only flashes the indicators with the four turns to the lock position and not with the rest. And all doors will open apart from passenger front

Every day I look at my neighbours Defender and occasionally drive it when I have fixed it with a tea spoon and a husk or wheat and then watch it increasing in value and think why the **** have I got a Range Rover ! :)

Get the door unlocked, the car thinks it is being tampered with.
Mine had done this to the previous owner. The rear left door had superlocked and didn't/wouldn't open, once released the car started after the eka was put in.

A friend swapped his L322 for a Defender, it's uncomfortable, noisy and you need an hydraulic leg to operate the clutch, issues so far with the complex EGR valve and now the DMF. I always fancied one but now I know why I have a P38:D:D:D

I suppose growing up working on a farm and driving tractors has given me a liking for the more agricultural side of the land rover brand. I also had a series 3 diesel which had a terrible engine.
My favourite vehicle now is my dad's Massey Ferguson 35

What's on earth is a clutch Keith??? Stop swearing!

At least you know the P38 will still be parked outside the following morning too and has not been nicked :(

Yer be parked outside coz your lucky I’ve you can get it to open 1st of all then hope it starts then hope it raises enough to drive the thing then pray it gets you to where you want to go and back nick the fing yuk would be out of your mind

Had my first P38 for 9 years, it has rarely given me trouble:cool::D

I've never done the key to vertical four times at the start of the process.

My BeCM knows it's gonna get an EKA code when it sees me approach the car because it's been sucking on the battery for the last three weeks or whatever........
