Can the oncoming drivers?

I tend not to have my full beam on when there are oncoming vehicles :p

But I am always very aware of my surroundings and find myself to be far more cautious when in the Discovery than in my works van, not because the van isn't mine, but because I can seriously do some harm to someone else without trying in the Discovery, the little fiesta has fancy crumple zones and ABS, the Disco has 2.2T of ladder chassis and driven on my whits.

not my vehicle , but will fit the same type of lightbar at some stage :)

is one of the curved ones , just got to find some neat fixing brackets

also found a oem switch kit for the dashboard

You should notice, really. I have had wheels come loose on tractors, due to total wheel bearing failure, not nuts.
And it was visually obvious, and felt weird on the steering, well before the wheel actually fell off.
You should, but I had to point out another driver's completely flat tyre recently. He hadn't noticed either!
 
And it doesn't help with that if they have fitted LEDs in the fog lamps.

the new mot regs are suppose to be tightening up on that , if any exterior light that wasn’t designed from the factory to have LEDs it will fail , have to replace the entire light cluster

happen to speak to a MOT tester a few weeks back that does mine

When my front wheels came loose it was after having had to bleed the brakes for the humpteenth time before the autokeuring on the Sunday night and having pinched them up but forgotten to torque them up, went to the test, got my pass two days later I got my number plates in the post and on the day off I wanted to go to Amsterdam, I'd already driven 130 kilometers and it was after driving a further 30kms I felt a vibration and when I pulled over I found that there was space between the front wheels and the hubs, jacked them up and pulled the wheels off to check the studs, all was well and wound them up tight with the torque wrench and double checked the rears, which were fine, and off we went on our merry way for a smoke and a coffee.

The vibration came on very gradually though and I will never forget that feeling through the steering wheel.

That's quite neat, I found a 52" curved LED light bar on Amazon that would look fab on my Disco, but after Sundays telegraph pole incident, I'll stick with a steel light bar and 6 smaller 7" light bars I can direct exacly where I want.

that’s what i also thought ref the lightbar , fits nicely and along with the correct switch panel so the dashboard doesnt get ruined , might see if i can get some brackets made up, so the lightbar is fixed to the front grill and not the bumper , so easy to remove if i need to remove the grill , also seen some leds tucked behind the grills

do like the full size A Bar , but they are silly money

this is the same type of grill i’ve got , so just a question of installing it so bits behind the grill are still accessible , unless i do indeed mount it behind the grill as it would certainally be a lot easier

I really thought I was going to lay it on it's side, my Disco is a bit more top heavy than Ed's and Dave's 90s :oops:

lol, it does look close that’s for sure , good job u didn’t sneeze ;)

think it’s also times like this when lifts are fitted u begin to worry , or think those spots on the roof might have been a bad idea ;);):D

looking forward when i’ve finshed mine and get on some greenlaning trips
 
I should imagine that the police will be taking a long hard look at the vehicle concerned in this awful accident as will the owners insurance company in order that they can find a way to deny any claims and pass the liability back to the owner/driver.
None of that helps the poor little girl nor her family.
I can understand that any major modification that alters the characteristics or safety of a vehicle really should be declared (and rightly so) in order to make sure the insurance cover "sticks" and is not withdrawn; but where does that stop?
He fitted non-manufacturer parts, so it is modified?
He fitted a different light-bulb/LED light, so its modified...no cover?
He removed the mid-box....so its modified...no cover?
There has to be some sensible upgrades allowed, surely?

On another rambling VAT fuelled tangent.......
A good friend of mine had the same accident happen to him on the same road on the same section of road in 2 completely different cars on 2 separate occasions.
He was (each time) on the A14 heading West when a split-wheel from an oncoming Articulated lorry coming the other-way on the other carriageway broke free and "bounced" down the road and across the central reservation.
First-time..... the wheel landed on the bonnet of his (Vauxhall Calibra car and bounced on, over his head.
Second time...... it took the whole front offside wing off his company Mercedes.
Given the weight & size of an artic's trailer wheels and the "closing speeds" involved he considers himself a really lucky man.
