Ok so Ive brought an ARB locker with everything i need except the compressor..

Its already built into a diff and ready to be put in my 90.

Its a 10 spline so my question is can it go into the front as ive heard they are either made for front or rear and as my rear is a 24 spline salisbury axle iat can't go there!

Makes no differance buddy. Will just have the 0.1mm of difference in wear normaly.
Out of interest how much did you pay for the diff?
Should got an ashcroft locker :p

300 buddy. Can't wait for it to arrive :) would prefer a cheaper compressor that will work with the solenoid. I need to read more about them before fitting

If your installing a locker or lsd or any traction aid into the front then get some hd shafts and cv joints, my mate has an arb in the front with 10 spline shafts he normally snaps a shaft befor a cv where 24 spline tend to break the cv, oe Carry spairs like I used to quick swap and off to play again

I've got a Detroit locker to fit when I can be arsed. Got it for £50 as the seller thought it was just a bolt in item. If I'm honest I'm dreading the setting up but it cant be too hard - can it? Looking for a decent TD5 90 spare diff to fit it to so I don't have too much down time. Anyone got one they want to sell?

I've built a few, there easyer that an air locker but not much, you don't need to touch the pinion just swap the crown onto the new diff and check the run out and set the back lash with a dti gauge
Anyone know of a decent compressor? Cheaper than arb

Try find a second hand arb then the pressure will be right

If you haven't got to do the pinion its not too bad at all. Problem with the Detroit in the rover axle is they break if pushed Ashcroft stopped selling them because the warranty wasn't being upheld Older ones were better quality by all accounts.

Had not heard that. Still if I get a spare diff I'll give the locker a go as at £50 it has not broken the bank and I can always put the old diff back in.
I have never set up a diff so adjusting the backlash could be interesting especially as I have no idea how to do it.

My Detroit has been fine for the five years, Personally I think that those who break them are driving pretty hard, and probably with very oversize tyres. If you look at the carrier on a Detroit there is loads more metal than on a standard LR item. A while back Detroit introduced "soft lockers, which have some plastic components to minimise clunking. I think they are maybe not as hard as the older all steel items, but still good for most users.

If you want advice about setting it up, I have always found Steve at Crown diffs to be very helpful and knowledgeable, he has helped me over the phone a few times.

Dead easy you adjust the bearings within the bearing caps alot easier than a sals! Really not that bad at all. At £50 you got an absolute bargain! And when I say they fail usually with some serious abuse!!

There is a quaife atb 24 local to me £300 which is an absolute bargain but Nigel at megasquirt snapped it up double quick I think.

Steve at crown diffs was always good but its all in thenone rover manual if your using a good known diff then it's pretty easy tbh

I've got a viair compressor for mine, make sure you get a reg to drop the pressure to the recommended value I broke the seals in my rear one running full pressure

I had a Detroit in the back of mine and still have it in the shed now, what breaks them is kinetic energy from a half shaft snapping, u ran hd shafts and never broke it, however a mate had a Detroit with the same tyres and standard shafts, pop went a shaft and the diff was in lots of little bits.
