Arb locker

Ashcroft isn't bad at all but if you cannot for its the best part of 1k if you can sort your own air system and for yourself then it's £600

Arb and ashcroft same thing except ashcroft work reliably. Arb's are ok when they work some work well for ages some don't. Ashcroft tho have no silly plastic cages, better seals, std copper pipe size, end plates that do not fail and is a better quality product. You hardly see any ashcroft lockers for sale second hand but see a few arb's. But you won't get an ashcroft for £300 never but you will get an arb and they're perfectly alright ish they're just not ashcroft.

Dead easy you adjust the bearings within the bearing caps alot easier than a sals! Really not that bad at all. At £50 you got an absolute bargain! And when I say they fail usually with some serious abuse!!
I had gone there to buy a disco xfer box from him but it was knackered. I just happened to see it on a shelf at the back of his garage. He was having a clearout and said he'd take £50 as he had no idea how to fit it or what it was worth and was going all Toyota. Seemed rude not to! He was a happy bunny and I got a new and unused Detroit still in its original, if somewhat mouldy, box. Just a case of right place and right time. The money I had intended for the xfer box went on the locker. That was four years ago now though and I still have been bottling fitting it.

other option is a limited slip diff like the ashcroft ATB. Thats £295 bran new from ashcroft and you dont need an air compressor etc as its fully automatic. fit and forget.

wont go into the diffs between a full locker and limited, but suffice to say that the ATB is probably a better option if you do more road miles than off road, or muddy tracks/snow/ice/low traction surfaces. The only time its been caught out for me is when you have an entire wheel of the ground at the P&P, at all other times I get more value for my money than a full locker.

YMMV etc etc etc

Got one in the back of mine and its been brilliant. Only time id wanted a full locker is when ive got an entire wheel off the ground at the P&P.

Good enough im putting one in the front next, and one in the xfer box.

I think this is the route I am going down when I have enough money, minus the t/box.

no substitute for a proper 100% locked axle. My bro has an ashcroft atb in the back and a torson T1 (I think) in the front and it's ok. When you need it offroad there is no substitute for a proper locker. I quite like the look of the new Kam electro solenoid operated drop in locker but with kam I'm ever so wary of its after sales support of lack of and now it's all all makes or who ever owned it now the quality of parts possibly diminishing.

Proper locker over atb any day but it's costs!

it does depend though eh, and one mans flavour of "off road" can be different to anothers. Green lanes, snow, ice, muddy tracks, wet grass, mud etc are all great with an ATB - especially as the driver doesnt need to lock it, by which time your already likely on your 2nd try.

Once you get wheels off the ground entirely the games up, and the locker is far far better. Dont disagree with that at all.

There is no best with this type of stuff, just best for what you do with the landie.

What about the kam locker with lsd?

It's a lsd all the time until u hit lock then it locks up as a locker does

I think for what I plan to use my 90 for (green laning and expeditions) an LSD would probably suit me best. Mostly because it is 1/3 of the cost of a locker!

I also read that you could apply the brakes slightly if you had a wheel off the ground and it would give some power to the other wheel. I know that probably isn't a solution that you can use often, but would it work?
