Headlights + side lights..please advise

Hi Guys have done some digging on here & can`t find the answer for this model...I have a 1995 M plate 300 tdi been having problems with driver side side lights...still ongoing with that..But what i am trying to find out is is it normal with the engine running & only side lights switched on for the headlights to light very dimmly...when engine switched off just the side lights left on no glow from head lights....hope this makes sense.....Thanking you in advance for your input

No that's not normal. Sounds like you have a bad earth.

I did check in the defender section & some of the older defenders do this but it does not mean it is right, i need to find out so i can illiminate this from my side light problem....cheers

Some posters haven't a clue ...It is normal, it's a function call Dim Dip.

Thanks i will discard this as the problem with my side lights now, i am getting there slowly at least i can get them to stay on for 10 mins now before the fuse blows rather than instant blow lol

I thought I was right. Didn't want to jump in though as I wasn't 100% sure.

I have isolated my dim-dip just by pulling the resistors plug, i have bright LED side light bulbs which look a bit naff with the the yellowish dim. The resistor in on the bulk head at the LH side of the washer bottle.
