P0705 Code

I have a 2004 discovery II (V8 gas automatic Trans) most recently I have been getting the "blinking" M&S lights. I turn the engine off and wait a few minuets than re-start the lights go off. 5 or so miles down the road I get CEL light on dash and flashing lights again. I have a Hawkeye scanner and the code from the transmission side fault indicated is the P0705 intermittent. I erase the code, drive Discovery and, the CEL (P0705) comes back on. The only way it seems to clear the code is disconnecting the negative battery cable from the battery with the lights on (headlights) and wait about 45 minutes. Reconnect the battery and everything seems fine. Not so lucky, I can drive for about 100 mi and the same thing re-occurs. Flashing m&s come back on drive it CEL comes on (P0705) Clear it with disconnecting the battery wait. Drive away. This has happened three times in a row while right at 100 mi.. Is this a coincidence or is something that the scanner isn't detecting. Any help would be appreciated.

P0705 is about erratic XYZ switch inputs, most likely the swicth is at fault but there are caes when the gearbox loom is chafed at the P clip on top of the box

Thanks for replying! I inspected the harness and didn't see any signs of chaffing. The xyz switch has not been opened and checked. I guess I could start there? I just received my new Nanocom Evolution for Disco II and have used it to clear the p0705 code but, It comes right back on after about 1 miles or so. Anything else you might recommend if all the above checks out?
Thanks for your time I really appreciate it! It's my wife's land rover but, she's afraid to drive it when the lights M&S start flashing.

The code comes back cos the switch is faulty so not much else to check and that code is coming with limp mode. You have to replace or fix the switch first, if the switch was ruled out and the fault is still there we'll speak then cos it implies complicated troubleshooting

We took the xyz switch apart today and we found burn marks . See pictures attached. Would this cause faults once the switch get hot? Can this be cleaned and reused? Or have to replace it.

Clean it use some good quality conductive grease on it and try it maybe it works just make sure it's adjusted well as to show the selection with accuracy, it looks quite damaged so if no joy replace it to be rued out 100%.... and redirect the aircon drain cos these used to kill the switches https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/disco-2-ac-drain-plug-relocation-108554/
ok I'll give it a try. Also, the AC line has been rerouted already from reading other post about the water ingress from ac line.

So we decided not to use the switch that was all burnt up looking. So we sourced another switch from a 2002 Discovery that was running great just wrecked. We decided to open the switch and we checked for any burn marks on the contacts. Everything looked good. We also did a continuity check on the wires to contacts open and closed and everything checked out fine. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Well to report back, everything was going well for about 75 miles than I decided to turn the ac on, once I did the M&S started flashing and coded p0705 (switch) was present. Cleared the code with my Nanocom and was driving great for another 46 miles than switched back on the AC and it coded the same thing again. Almost instantly. Is it possible for the AC to draw down that many volts to send a signal to trigger the switch P0705 code? Just not sure what to check next. Any thoughts?

I did have my nanocom hooked up and when I turned the AC on the voltage went from 13.9 to 13.4
that should not trigger the M+S lights, though was that reading out of the TCU data? if not watch that next time.... i have no ideea what could cause such oddity as the XYZ inputs to be disturbed by the AC, if it happens in park too watch live switch inputs with nanocom while you turn the AC on to see if something happens there or not... seems that there is a common header joint shared by both systems and there is a ground or power leak between the circuits, the only simple thing would be to replace the interior fusebox to rule it out cos it used to suffer from corrosion and can cause all kind of strange symptoms but that's just a guess

Well scratch the idea that the ac was causing a voltage drop and setting off the m&s lights and p0705 code. Its doing it again with the nothing on just driving normally. We assumed after checking the continuity of the wires that this newer switch would fix the problem. It didn't back to square one. Any thoughts?

I'm still not convinced that it isn't the P clip. You have to take that part of the loom off the car and dig deep through all the insulation to be sure chafing hasn't happened.
Superficially it often appears OK but the shorts etc happen deep with it. there are pics on other parts of the forum that show just this.
If it was me I'd be taking it off and giving it a really serious look-see.
