hi all ,

is it possible (in england) to increase the GVW for a 110 ( or a 130) to over 3500 KG ?
if it's possible , what needs to been done (uprated suspension , brake's ?)
in the netherlands the road tax for a truck (3501 kg and up ... ) is much less than it's for a lighter land-rover diesel ....(up to 3500 kg) so it would be nice to make it a truck :)

greetings from the netherlands

The Snatch defenders are plated more than that but they have a ton and a half of armour added and updated everything, Salisbury diffs all round etc, reinforced chassis.

You already own a 110 or looking to buy?

can build the stationwagon variant myself , so a basic 130 wil do the trick ( or other option is streching a 110 to 130)

but question was 3501 kg .....

think you would need to fit Salisbury front axle , and probably wolf rims . Tyres load range would need to be looked at as well, and obviously suitable springs , as mentioned the amoured landrover would be spec to meet requirements . This would then take you to MGV status in UK , which is what you are trying to achieve for netherlands registration purposes I take it ? Will it affect your driving licence requirements ?

You will need full brake calculations, and have a engine suitable for a higher gvw ie v8 as pull away ability is also questioned, I went through the same nonsense before and just paid a firm called sv tech to do paperwork and plating

And ministry mot, and I believe they now require proper parking brakes on the rear axle not just a transmission brake
That should apply only to new vehicles (don't actually know) because Foden used to have a transmission brake.
Would that mean they have to be modified if you are still operating one?

Upto 12 plate still accepted , eg Mitsubishis etc , might be future requirement ?

I was looking at getting a zil 6x6 and a person I spoke who had registered one previously to had to change the rear brake actuators over to safety type ie air to get brakes off so in effect a parking brake, there again the tester could have been a sob

thanks all for the input , converting a armoured 110 to a camper is a bit to much work i gues , and we still don't know if these are registerd as HGV.

that is a requirement for safety brakes (spring brakes) on air brake system , not handbrake per se . If hydraulic system then handbrake can be on propshaft hope that clarifies :)
