is my transfer box a 1.4

just bought a transfer box and after cleaning etc looks really good inside, but to work out the ratio your supposed to use 1st 2 numbers and last letter

mines 13a

now from what iv fdound the a means i cant put a cross drilled input shaft in, but what is the 1.3 for?

apparently its from a breg defender.

first 3 digits last letter is suffix which signifiies mark/of that type ,and no you cant fit a cross drilled input gear to a box less than c suffix and use frc5428 as an input gear

however they only show suffix d on their examples and nothing of 13

The serial number will be stamped in one of 2 possible places, either on the bottom left of the main casing or on the earlier vehicles right at the bottom of the left hand side face of the main casing obscured by the exhaust pipe in which case you will need a knife (to scrape the muck off) and a mirror. You are looking for Eg. "28D123456E, we are interested in the first two and the last, i.e. we call this a "28E". Please have a look in the LT 230 Technical Section to find a list of Serial numbers / Ratios.

they call it 28e as it suits them for info but lr dont they call it a 28d on an e suffix which is easier for complete info

exactly but an r type ie roller bearings on the intermediate shaft not taper as later types

I have a x drilled input gear from a 1.4 defender tranny box inc bearings maybe 1000 Miles old??? main gearbox shat itself and the whole lot was replaced. Comes with the rear plate if you think it will work for you £40 its yours. Been sitting in my garage for ages as I have a 1.003:1 no good for me :-(. Would benefit from a degrease although it has been wrapped in a clean cloth. Jai

No idea on suffix it was from a genuine 200tdi fender 1.4 box no idea on suffix. If its any good or you wish to try you welcome. J
