No RAVE sine Around 2005-2006....it was all migrated to the TOPIx system....you can pay for access to a specific model, or all models all years..and pay for a days access, a week, month etc...

What I was gonna do is pay for a couple of days access, and download all the information on there and host the documents from my webserver...but never got round to it yet!!

heres the link to TOPIx

I should think that L/R would send you a large Christmas hamper for selflessly bring their material to a wider audience without charging them a penny.

G~

True....but they charge enough for their products and services I think the information should be provided free....:p

Me too. Are there any laws regarding how long they can keep the electronics stuff proprietary? I can't imagine that it would come from here but I wonder whether the yanks might force them to disclose it after X years.

G~

Has anyone tried it? I haven't but at the garage they say you can't do it, its protected. They're spanner monkeys though not computer whizzes so they could be wrong.

EU law has long required that manufacturers make all information available so that non franchised garages can make repairs to all models should they choose to do so. Unfortunately the legislation does not say the info has to be free so LR and others charge for access. Not easy to download the stuff or it would have been done I suspect.

Someone has done it for most of Topix for the Freelander 2, which I found on one of the other forums.

The trouble with Topix is that it doesn't seem to be written in as useful a format as Rave was (for non-trade anyway).... Not enough detail

Anyone downloading and re-distributing it is treading a dangerous path. It is a breach of copyright and possibly intellectual property rights.

Well I never knew that. Can everyone who has a copy of my downloaded memorymap torrent please remove it from their pooters..
Doubt anyone will come knocking on your door Redhand. Microsoft have knocked on a fair few doors over pirate copies of Windows and the same is happening with pirated music, but it takes big bucks to go after individuals through the courts.
I spent 5 years in the high court fighting over copyright/intellectual property rights ownership, makes me a bit touchy about it:)

I would only download the content for my own personal use...the reason for putting it on my webserver is so I can access it where ever I am as no doubt there will be large amounts of data I couldn't either a) print out or b) Store on a memory stick....

Of course if someone was to 'find' my webserver and the information therein....:D:D:D:D

Can understand you are touchy about such things...hell my girlfriend has a photography business and we go to great lengths to ensure the copyright of the images lisenced for use is protected as the photos are her brand afterall....

On the other hand, I get nothing for the products and components I spend countless hours designing and developing as it all goes to my company....who then make billions on our hard work....

It used to be standard practice to have a clause in the contract of employment that gave the employer all rights on anything developed in company time or that was connected to a product on which you were employed even if the development was done at home in your own time:)

I have just such a clause in my Contract - including I am not allowed to leave my company and go to a competitior within 6 months of leaving...!!
