Discovery V8 (1999 series 1) has a standard exhaust, how do i make it sound a little more fruity.. it sounds nice but ive got a TVR and id love it to sound a little more like that....

remove rear box and weld stainless to centre box.... if you want more then cat-back no boxes. that would be your limit unless you would like permanant hearing loss.Or drove with ear defenders like I did.(mine were down pipes and nothing else) just straight out, infact i past a TVR V8 in the hindhead tunnel and they stopped videoing the TVR to video me and the racket i was making

great tips thanks guys, anyone done it got a u-tube video so i can listen to the end result.. cherry bomb takes me back to my youth and a mg metro.. used to sound amazing..

Plenty.you should find some just buy seaching cherrybomb on you tube
Just fit a cat-back Janspeed sports system it won't louder but a better tone.
The system for a TVR is a lot different and remember if the exhaust is louder than standard it's a MOT fail, if the tester is doing his job that is.

Do u think that a lap or desk top loudspeakers can produce the exact sound of the V8 exhaust?

True it would never sound or feel like the real thing,but would give someone a rough idea of what to expect. There are a few before and afters on you tube and a number of throaty v8s showing their growl. Defo worth a look.

I second that the janspeed system is a good product, everyone comments on the sound and the pop on over run always puts a smile on my face.
I enjoy seeing people turn round in anticipation of viewing the V8 monster that they can hear and then see thier faces change to a slightly confused smile as I go by.
Gotta say I do love that V8 rumble.

Yeah it seems that the best option is some kind of straight through centre muffler (YES you do need a muffler in there somewhere) and straight pipe thereafter.
Increasing the bore to 2.5" where possible allows slower gases at tickover so you might get slightly more bum bum bum.

Am interested in doing this on mine if I can find a cheap Cherry Bomb on ebay, but what size inlet and outlet does want on the Cherry Bomb to fit in the system?

Thanks for that. So the concept is remove the back box, install cherry bomb somewhere after the mid box, then straight pipe out to the back of the car? Does it matter how near or far the cherry bomb is from the mid box and how much straight pipe you have after the cherry bomb?

Yes, that's why some of us purchase a system from an exhaust specialist who use a computer to design a system specific to vehicle and engine/gas flow and then can be fitted without any hassles afterwards.

That's great and I fully agree that probably it is better, but its what; about £300 for a system like that, minimum? But probably only going to cost £50 to fit a cherry bomb and a pipe and just get a better V8 note from it.
Its a bit like saying; well thats why some just buy a brand new Discovery and not a 15 year old one when it comes to replacing anything.

A disco ES with a petrol engine has a very quiet interior and a nice place tobe, so if you want the drone of a cherry bomb entering into interior from under your seat so be it.
I for one do take interior noise into consideration when choosing a replacment exhaust
