Straight through exhaust???

The headers have what look like stubby exhausts, but they are blocked off, so the real exhausts pass under the car and out near the rear quater, so how is that a straight through with muffled headers??

yeah when I take off the header Caps it's load! Have driven it like that before on cruises at shows, all road legal even tow a Rapido folding caravan with it!

Wasn't me that said about them, twas someone else, I said about my cherry bombs or try super traps. But I can and do take off the end Caps but my ears bleed after a while! Lol

I drove my mates Rod - he had 8 individual straight pipes for each exhaust port - the noise was so loud it hurt not just me ears but also my chest!!!

He has changed it to a more sensible design now haha

Hard work! keep cleaning, Solvol Autosol and wire wool is what I use, I have been known to use very fine wet and dry

the Y pipe helps torque at low revs.

dragsters have 8 separate pipes because thats the freest flowing type if header and at 8000 rpm there is no need for back pressure or header tuning, just get the gas out! at low revs/midrange header tuning is EVERYTHING to an NA engine and so that's why engines with cross plane cranks need a Y or at least a balance pipe (because there is a portion of the firing order where two cylinders fire sequentially on the same bank and so the other header loses all it's pressure, this is bad for the next cylinder fire, the Y pipe balances the pressure)

this is also Y running a big chevy without Y pipe as intended gives you that lovely bum bum bum because each bank has such an irregular firing order. at high revs it isnt an issue which takes me back to the dragster thing.

Has anyone done this on a V8 90? I was going to put the exits, one each side in the quarter panels at the back behind the wheels so two pipes, one from each bank, probably in 70mm stainless.

I've read everything about silencers and I realise that I run the risk - so be it, but I was wondering whether it might be too loud (just got back from the Le Mans Classic and realise how quiet all road cars are).

The threads on here seem to be putting straight throughs on the diesels.

A problem you may encounter is an exhaust balance, both downpipes are usually meant to meet at a Y branch and then you can route the pipes to where you want. Otherwise it will affect the engine power output, the engine exhaust system is set up that the two banks are balanced and the ECU is able to allow a smooth take up of power.

You may also suffer a mixture imbalance using straight through pipes and should find out whether you need remapping of the ecu?
