Oh you bringers of joy and hope !
i am leaning more towards this as you used to able to jiggle the key in the ignition and it would turn offto be fair i have had a few worn pumps and a few poor solenoids ,but more poor ignition switches
welll no joy ..disconnected the cut off solenoid wire and the motor still keeps runnin, gonna fit a new ignition switch in the week and see what happens
dont knowSurely if it still runs with fuel solenoid disconnected the solenoid HAS to be faulty![]()

is it easy to remove the solenoid? That proves that the solenoid is currently faulty. Sometimes you can bring them back to life - take out the solenoid and give it a good clean and reinstalled.
Without connecting power to the solenoid the engine should turn over but NOT start - if it does start, you need a new solenoid.

sounds like my kind of jobScrew out the old one, screw in the new - takes 30 secs.
for the cost of £8 ive orderd a new oneI was hoping Ratty would explain - you dont need a new solenoid, you just need to take it out and dismantle the plunger and spring out of it.Clean it and put it back together.
It will then be fine until a bit more swarf jams it up.All signs that the pump is shot....
always best to try the cheapest and easiest solutions first, rather than expecting the worstGive the man a break , solenoids have been known to fail on their own ....granted in this situation its often as you say ....but it might not be

I have to be honest I don't know what the percentage of buggered solenoids is compared to those that just need cleaning. When I go out to em at the side of the road and tell em what the score is it's very rare that I see em again after to get the follow up. I just advise em that they're swarfed up and why.![]()
eliminating it as before when it wouldnt turn off if you wiggled the key in the ignition it would turn off so im guessing the barrell may be warn i dunno,so process of eliminationign switch? Doh if you take the wire off and it still runs no need for a new switch lol
