I have had my disco for a few months now and am loving playing with it, im a mechanic by trade so am enjoying building and fixing bits on it, its been a pleasure compared to some vehicles I have owned. I have done a fair few mods so far and was wondering if there are any cheaper mods worth doing?

So far i have done suspension (2" lifts, dropped turrets/shocks, cranked trailing arms, hoses, cones e.t.c.), shields and guards (diffs, tank and steering), wheels and tyres (insa turbos), bit of tuning (thats ongoing as per my other posts today), HD bumpers that I made, rack and lights (purely for looks, cant see a real need for them but it cost about £30)...

So I was wondering if theres any little cheap mods about I could do, something that looks cool or performs well?? This is what it looks like at the mo but with the addition of a southdown snorkel I just fitted:

Sell it and Buy a Defender ;)

On a slightly more serious note. You dont appear to have anywhere for forward recovery...... ;)

Yup i agree buy a defender.....

And a new front number plate.

Actually that thought has crossed my mind.... but then this goes everywhere a defender does, I have done the suspension properly and its impressive, very impressive.

I have got 2 two eyes on the chassis rails but I have just ordered 2 5 ton tow straps to go on the front so thats all good... and I have done the numberplate, it now sits on my roofrack...

What about the back??

Errrm is that 25 ton or 2.5 ton tow strap

Cos if it's 2.5 ton it int gonna be worth a ****e and dangerous too

What about the back??

Its got an HD bumper with 2 towing points built into the bumper, I also changed the chassis mounts for 5mm angle as they were a bit weak.

its 2 x 5000KG straps to be mounted on 2 seperate points, the 5000KG is the test strength and its a webbed strap so no doubt it will take more (I was speaking to the company that makes them at the autosport show and he said the 5000KG is the saftey rating they had to get for them to be E marked)

Turn the pump up and run her on 50-50 mix of veg oil and diesel. Good power increase, smoother running and a little cheaper.

Comments of buying a Defender are a little harsh, after all can anyone, without bull****ting, tell us eactly what situation a Defender would be a greater benefit to a Discovery? Honestly - I dont know so is a genuine question. I do Like Defenders and would fancy a nice one but what would be the benefit?

Ah i see now it's two 5 ton straps...............

better but I think I'd want 7 to 12 ton to be honest.

there is a weight calculation some where for straight line dead engine pull I think 3 to 5 ton breaking strain is ok

Then if straight line pull through mud doubles car weight.

Then straight line pull through mud and up an incline doubles that again

not too sure I'd havbe to look it up but I dont think I'm far off

You were at autosport this weekend?

I was there, and thought that unless you had a project going on, it was a bit wet :(

I enjoyed it but yeah, there wasnt much going on really, it was either for trade people (I did get a few contacts for the business), millionaire play cars or trade stands full of odds and sods you dont want unless you have a half built ford pinto engine!!!

It was a joke, take yer head out from up yer arse  :D

Defenders dont need all this stuff to be awesome offroad ;)

15 x 10 Modulars
33x12.5x15" Tyres
2" body lift
3" Springs
Terrafirma +5" shocks
Terrafirma +2" Skeleton Turrets
Terrafirma Dislocation Cones with Hooks

home made snorkel?

Already done just not on that pic, I havent got a recent pic but I just fitted a snorkel last week, waiting on my axel breather kit to come through...

Im kinda getting the idea that there are no more 'small' mods really to do, im getting closer to the point of having to winch it... best start saving...
