Yes I know - I felt a right DICK !!!!

But that wasn't through a lack of maintenance and it wasn't just before an mot. It was just a careless mistake that I won't ever make again.

It just sounds like general lack of interest in looking after the vehicle to me.

As drivers we are all responsible for ensuring our vehicles are maintained and should be doing daily and weekly checks - how long does it take to lift the bonnet and check coolant, engine oil and pas levels? 30 seconds?

At the end of the day I missed two obvious things as I was worrying about other stuff but hopefully won't be making that mistake again. Although I do feel like a bit of a dick.

It wasn't all doom and gloom as I managed to borrow a td5 for the weekend so I've been able to get the odds and sods I needed.

Yer I suppose, bit unsure on it really as the rear centre head rest is right in the way of the rear view. I think I'd prefer my 200tdi any day.

Drop the arm rest in the centre of the rear seats.

to be frank anyones headlights can fail on alignment that is too insignificant for the driver to notice... any one on a high horse that says otherwise needs to get there head back out in the daylight.

my garage would have adjusted them there and then.... might have failed, fixed it, then retested though depending how long the list of niggles would take to fix..... ive had them come back in the past with things like an odd brakepipe repared.... probably a lot depends on how all their other work has one on the day, it only takes one job to be a pig taking longer than planned to throw everything else unplanned out the door till another day.

All you need to do is turn your headlights down a bit and they won't fail.

Whenever I take any of ours in for an mot I always speak to the guy doing it explaining that I have just changed the headlights but I don't have an alignment gauge at home, so could he please adjust them for me (I leave the right tools on the front seat to do it).

Never have a failed mot because I spend the time to ensure it's clean inside, outside and underneath, I check all the light functions, rectify any obvious faults such as oil leaks, wear in wheel bearings or brakes, in an attempt to make sure I don't get a fail.
