Hi all,

I just moved to France and gone through the MOT, it failed only on the Opacity Smoke test, average was 0.70.
it does state on the doc (0.35,-1) C5: 0.78 C6: 0.69 C7: 0.63 Avg: 0.70

I ordered some engine cleaner here (Bardahl 5-1) which the garage recommended.
I had not really taken it for a drive much before test so that woudl have helped.

But as I dont understand any of these numbers at all, is 0.70 very bad?

Hi

I’m afraid I’m not aware of what the readings should be for a French MOT

But from what I’ve read short journeys can block up the DPF which will normally require it being cleaned out by a company

Or an Italian tune up to really give it a good run 🤣, can the garage that done ur mot do a forced regen or know of someone who can sort it out for u plse

Seen mixed results with DPF cleaners , but indeed would speak to the garage or find a local one that can solve it for u

Think u have 30 x days to take it back for a retest

Hope that helps

Good thrash before the test, plus remove the air filter prior to the test.

Hi mate

Indeed can’t beat an old fashioned Italian tune up 🤣

Interesting u mention about the air filter being removed , is that simply to rule out if it’s dirty or another reason plse, sorry for the daft question , man6 thks

Hope ur good

As you've just moved to France, be aware there are quite a few of us over here. We are in the Tarn, south East corner, but we will be going back at the end of the month for 6 months. But others are over here full time. So help may be closer at hand than you think! Best of luck!

Oh and maybe a fuel additive might help, dunno, others might know.

I’ve decided to take it to another garage for a pre CT service

I've used the Bardahl 2 in 1 on several smokers that have failed their CT, instrctions should be followed to the letter to get maximum effect, also oil and complete filter change before adding. I assume it only failed on the smoke test, if so you only have to take it back for a contra visit (a small fee) if you go to another CT gaff you have to pay for the full ish again.
