ok following previous thread on poss overheating problems

i thought i would change temperature sender

mmmm..theres a sender/sensor in the thermostat housing .
another coolant sensor to the left of this and another sensor on top of the engine that says its to do with the ecu .

confused now which one will actually read with the temp guage?
or is it a case of disconnect each one and see what does it

its an 83 rr with a 1992 4.2v8 lse rr engine in

Is it actually overheating and how do u know? The sensor will not match the clock as it's a hybrid I am having the same problem!!

thats what i was thinking

the guage reads over 3/4 within 5 mins of idle and then on a short drive its nearly in the red

pullover and check engine rad and exspansion bottle aint even warm yet

the original guage was in the rr when it had a 3.5v8 on carbs
it now has the 4.2v8 efi lse engine in it

im thinking of possibly an aftermarket guage and sensor together?

the sender from the 3.5 carb works with the defender gauge. going back to your first question, re over heating on your range rover, has the gauge always read high.

but the rr was a 3.5v8 carb originally why would it have a defender guage or need a defender guage to work

the guage has always been a bit vague, but since doing a rad clean new antfreeze and putting in a thermostat as there wasnt one in it,it seems worse

Steve parker is the answer. Its what makes a conversion a good one or a lash up. If you have all senders guages matched, Pipes and hoses clipped and supported correctly and wiring soldered and heat shrunk nice and tidy that is a good conversion. If you have any pipes/wires rubbing, un tidy wiring or unmatched senders/guages then where else has the person that converted it bodge up? I mean if you can't be arsed to spend what £8 on a sender then should you really be undertaking a conversion?

You are right the rr classic and defender do have the same resistance between the gauge.
