    Sorry another chassis question

Just re-chassis-ed my 110 Hi Cap and we reckon it took around 120 man hours. The rest of the truck was basically OK, so it was a straight case of removal and replacement, with the obvious exceptions of all new bushes, clutch, brake hoses etc. I know it's tempting to try and do everything at...

Removal of truck cab as an assembly ?

Well, time has come for a new chassis for my 110 pick up (Hi cap) and as it's a hard working tool, want to keep down time to a minimum. I am looking for any advice on removing the cab as a complete assembly -- obviously having disconnected all the external links ! Easy way would be to put a...

    300 TDi Cylinder Head Suppliers

Following sudden. intermittent overheating on the motorway, plus a well pressurised expansion bottle after about ten seconds running from cold this morning, I have formed the not unnatural conclusion I am looking at head gasket or head issues. If the head is terminally unwell, I see many...

    Rattly New TRW Brake Servo

Update from TRW. They say that providing the input shaft isn't loose, the rattle not of concern. I have fitted the new piece and it appears to work OK, but still don't fathom why they would make it with something so loose inside.

    Rattly New TRW Brake Servo

Decided to get to bottom of the increasingly crap braking on my 110 and found the tiny split in the face of the servo, adjacent to one of the cylinder mounting pins. Avoiding Chinese junk, decided to go for a TRW branded servo. Opened the box, shook the servo and there was a distinct internal...

    Poor brakes on Defender 110

I know I'm resurrecting a pretty old thread here, but just wondered how common this problem is ? My 97 Hicap has dismal braking performance, even though superficially all is OK. Passes the MOT, but certainly won't lock the wheels in the real world and with a load on requires some stopping. I am...

Aaaaarghh -- Truck has eaten turbo !

Thanks for the ideas. Have got a good used one on the way, hopefully. Is the oil feed / return hose prone to delamination ? I have in mind the boost should be about half a bar -- is that right ? I don't think it's a bearing issue as there is virually no play in the shaft. Mike.

Aaaaarghh -- Truck has eaten turbo !

Posted a few weeks ago on replacing turbo core on my Defender 300. Fitting was OK and all was good. Noticed recently however a marked drop in grunt, typical of no turbo. Pull off air feed hose and ---- virtually no blades left and deposit of ally dust in inlet hose. Before you ask, yes, I did...

Thanks for the info guys. Appreciated. Mike.

    Diagnostic programme ?

Pondering getting a P38 and keep reading in the sale descriptions of various lamps on the dash, suspension brain issues etc. What I don't seem to have seen is a dedicated interrogation / reset device (like Lexia for Citroen, if any other Citroenists are here !) that deals with the vehicles...

    Ongoing starting problem

It was a Citroen 2.5 fitted Bosch mechanical pump. The implication in Citroenland was providing you had the Bosch rather than Lucas pump you could run it on nutty slack, if you wanted to. I just had an endless round of weeping pipes, choked filters, smelly exhaust culminating in pump failure...

defender 300tdi slow to start and spluttering

Sorry -- no link; it was a Delco pump I had off Ebay with another job in mind. I suspect that any electric pump designed for use with carburettors rather than injection would do the job. I vaguely recall (please don't quote !) that most of the mechanical lift pumps deliver at about 4 - 5 psi, so...

    Ongoing starting problem

The Devil's fuel in my opinion ! The only vehicle I have ever had an injection pump fail on was the one I ran for a year or so on bio. Cost me as much as I saved in endless filter and pipe changes, too ! Dreadful stuff. Mike.

defender 300tdi slow to start and spluttering

I had exactly this issue and fixed it in one, relatively easy go by forgetting the mechanical lift pump and fitting a low pressure electric lift pump. Went from the cranking you describe to first time, every time. It also makes bleeding replacement fuel filters a piece of cake, plus offers the...

300 Tdi Turbo. Repair or Replace ?

It was Friday -- horizontal snow, fingers so cold couldn't really feel spanners, temper knob set to 11 --- it's a wonder I have any recollection, never mind photos !! :) Mike.

300 Tdi Turbo. Repair or Replace ?

Well, after a lot of pondering, decided to replace the centre core section, which with the exception of the wastegate actuator and gate is the only moving part. After digging around, came across the 'Melett' company, who actually make the pieces here in the UK. OK -- there may still be some...

300 Tdi Turbo. Repair or Replace ?

Hi Guys -- New member, so apologies if this topic has already been done to death. The turbo on my 160k miles 300 has just started making an unfamiliar screeching noise at higher rpm and is passing what seems an excessive amount of oil into the inlet tract, so I'm guessing it's getting to the...
