    :cool: Hi, We are just about too replace the clutch on my friends 200tdi and we are wondering if it is easier to remove the engine, which we have been advised is the easiest option, or is it easier to remove the gear and transfer box too complete the job, any views are welcome, ta in advance.:D

    Well the car is back on the road without the seal as mine apparantley does not require one, will keep checking for oil but have been told by the local land rover garage that their is no need to put an oil seal in, if I have problems I will be prepared too rip it apart again and put one in, but...

    No they run in grease because there are 2 seals fore and aft of the bearings, so there is no access for the gear oil, in reality that is, does not explain why my o/s stub axle is leaking though, but have just ordered a new stub axle for my car from Land Rover Accessories & Spare Parts at the...

    Amazingly enough I have been told that my disco does not have stub axle oil seals even thought their is space their for them, when we stripped the stub axle their was no seal present, but we are going to put one in for safety sake, cheers.

    Bearings, totally shot they fell out when we stripped the axle, and the bearing shell has welded itself onto the stub axle, the diff was totally fuffed the gears literally fell out when we took it off the car, replaced it now and will hope that it will be fine when we get the wheels back on, cheers.

    :eek: Depending on weather we are pulling the axle apart on thursday, but when the rear was up, and when the wheels were turned the rear prop never moved, but did when we dropped one side to the ground, there was slight movement in the prop, so can only wait and see, will inform what we find...

    Have lifted the back end and removed wheels, bearings ok but both wheels spin when in gear and diff lock on whilst front wheels remain on the ground also a rumbling sound whilst turninig the hubs, any advice would be appreciated.
