    Different fuels

I think that's right, I was mainly wondering whether on the Rover V8 if it cared about that? I used to have an old ex military V6 outboard that would run on fuel no matter how dodgy, how highly strung is the v8?

    MAF Sensor

Changed the MAF on our 4.0 THOR a couple of months ago and it made a stellar difference - changed from lumpy and unresponsive to instantly responsive and power restored.

    Different fuels

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread but would be interested to know your thoughts - on a 4.0 p38 (2001) how important is fuel quality? I ask because our local Shell garage has just closed and the new nearest station is Tesco.... thanks!

Ah didn't catch your advice in time Dave! But I got this text from my dad today: "Fitted the new [Bosch] MAF Sensor. Car is now so responsive it's fantastic". So that's good :) Cheers for the help chaps!

P38A Love it when you find a problem easily! Also MAF question

Driving with a disconnected MAF worked gloriously for all of 3 miles before the computer through a hissy fit and gave power-no power-power in very quick succession... Refitted the sensor and it's slightly better than it was but not perfect by any means.. So hopefully a replacement will sort that!

P38A Love it when you find a problem easily! Also MAF question

A P38 v8 poor on fuel, must avoid such a thing :p Thanks, that's what I thought was the case, I should be able to convince them :) I presume that with it unplugged the engine management just defaults to some standard settings based on atmospheric pressure, so would assume it'd be OK unless...

P38A Love it when you find a problem easily! Also MAF question

Hi chaps! Whilst home for the weekend I'm driving my parents to a party (yes I've reached that stage in post teenage life...) And wonder why their 2001 4.0 THOR p38 is SO SLOW... Speculatively unplugged the MAF sensor after getting home and voilà back to full power, so hopefully that's all...

P38A 4.0 Power Loss in the Wet

Thanks Saint :) Will do that tomorrow. Just re-done all the electrics on my boat today, thought I was done with the Vaseline!

P38A 4.0 Power Loss in the Wet

Hi Chaps, Driving home (for Christmas...) no, from the pub (just food ;) ) in the pouring rain and puddles when... flop.. no revs above ~1500 regardless of throttle position. Tootled into a siding and checked under bonnet where there was a mild smell like a burnt firework and some water...

    P38A Screenwash Level Warning

Yes it cuts back on fluid use by stopping washing the headlights and maybe reducing the water pressure on the screen, never tested that!

    P38A 4.0 Service

I'm sure I could do bleeding were I home, but it's something that you don't get a 2nd chance on... :P Oh I know how cheap the EAS can be, but not if it were all done by Land Rover... :o Thanks for the tips Saint, I'll leave that for my dad and the garage to decide :) If it's stable enough to...

    P38A 4.0 Service

Thanks :) It was fully serviced for the 96k but that was 24k ago so time for a new one! Is it a serpentine belt or a fan belt on the V8s? Or are they the same thing? Either way good shout. I think (hope) the water pump has been replaced with a metal one at some point and the fan is relatively...

    P38A 4.0 Service

Mileage is circa 120000 I think. To be fair, replacing any bit of the cooling system isn't a bad thing on the V8! ABS goes out at >5mph but all 3 (ABS, handbrake, TC) stay on until the brake system is pressurised. I can't comment on the level of oil leak unfortunately, I'm aware there's stuff...

    P38A 4.0 Service

Hi Chaps, My dad's 4.0 2001 P38 is in the garage at the moment after he broke the overflow pipe putting the new battery in... Anyhow, given that it was due for its service anyway apparently it's had an oil change and he gave me a call asking if anything else should be done. I have proposed the...

    battery on p38

This is it I think? Or the newer model: http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/product/MF31-1000/ Mine's a 2001 so hopefully leads are fine. Dad left the lights on and drained the battery leading an incredibly tedious phonecall trying to explain the EKA procedure :p The battery is far too small...

    battery on p38

Sorry to resurrect and I'm fairly certain the answer is yes but does this one fit the 4.0 bay? Thanks :)

    P38A The Luckiest Trip Ever...

So the story is fairly simple... For the last 7 years I have read the tide tables and know that if there's >7m on the Thames keep well away. This time I let my dad read the tables and he read somewhere that wasn't the Thames as a 5.2m tide, told me that so I thought well that's fine...

In light of this though is there anything that should be done asides from greasing the ujs? Time under water was probably an hour

Why? I thought people only did that to prevent valuations when selling?
