    Not Starting No Spark????

You can disconnect the king lead (coil to dizzy HT lead) and hold that against ground then spin it over to see if there is a spark. It won't damage anything. If no spark then the prob is either with the crankshaft sensor or, less likely, the ecu.

Head Gasket - to get repaired or not??

A grand???!!! Feck me! Are they gonna replace it with a gold plated HG???? 200 max labor and 100 for part max. Even if needs skimming that should only be another 250 max so you should be looking around the 500 mark. Shop around!!

    Freelander Faults poll

Anti roll bar bush FNS bottom ball joint knackered (what a fecking stupid system of having to replace the bottom arm just for the sake of a ball joint - not to mention the 10ft long bolt holding it all together!) Catalyst knack'd so replaced for MOT HEAD GASKET!!!!! Air-con leaking Interior...

    Leaking Tailgate

Check the headlining at the inside top of the door. If it is wet then it's not the door rubber, instead the water is getting in through the screwholes that hold the top outer trim in place. It then just drips down at a fair rate of knots into the cubby hole where it becomes a stagnent paddling...

    Rear doors wont open

Is the problem that they won't unlock or they won't open? If they unlock but won't open I presume you've tried from both inside and outside the vehicle i.e. no kiddie locks on? If not the kiddie locks, is there any resistance when you pull the lever on the inside of the vehicle? If not then...

    Hazard Switch

Yep, just checked, the little triangle is backlit with the sidelights on. I know it's a Hippo but you don't have to use the hazard lights THAT much do you???!!

Fuel and ignition but still won't start...

All makes sense now.... Until I had a proper look, I thought the injectors were direct into the cylinders the same as a deisel injector is (or even a spark plug) so that's why I couldn't understand why fuel would be injected into a cylinder when it was on the power or exhaust stroke. I know now...

    FL Mistery...

Aha! The problem is obvious! Spiders are not insects so the spray didn't have any effect on them other than to REALLY **** them off and make gang up against your electrical and cooling systems! Dearot 0 - 1 Spiders God knows what the score will be by the end of injury time!! :D

Fuel and ignition but still won't start...

OOPS! Yep, me being a stupid bar steward there... of course it opens the injector on the induction stroke, however that would mean that when 1 is on induction, 4 is on the downward power stroke. Are you saying that the injectors are mounted such that they are not one for each cylinder but...

Fuel and ignition but still won't start...

Yep, it's the standard 1 3 4 2 configuration. i.e. when 1 is on compression stroke, 4 is on exhaust (same goes for 2 & 3). So, when 1 is on compression, that is when the injector for 1 should open and fuel be injected. With the wiring as it is, this would also inject fuel into cylinder 4 that is...

Fuel and ignition but still won't start...

Hi Clutchdust, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the relay in question is shown in the Haynes manual as just one relay with no terminal number but I have since managed to get hold of a copy of the RAVE CD and this shows the modules as 4 standard relays so I can now understand the...

    injector open circuit

'copy of testbook'?? Is that just a software package? I assumed that testbook was an all singing and dancing bench tool. If just a s/w package, 1) how can I get hold of a copy and 2) how would I use it? Does it not require hooking up to the Landy ECU system or test socket?

Fuel and ignition but still won't start...

Hiya, advice needed before I light blue touch paper and stand clear!! I have a W reg 1.8 petrol hippo that just refuses to start. Nice strong clean spark at the plugs and fuel is reaching the injector fuel rail but when it spins over it just doesn't want to catch. I'm thinking that the fuel...

The Dreaded Head Gasket Issue Newbie

Thanks LR1796 for the info. Just one question, why do I need to remove the crank nut? Is that required to replace the timing belt or something?? I don't think I'll bother with the new oil rail, I'll just face the consequences instead! I've always fitted new head bolts when replacing H/Gs...

The Dreaded Head Gasket Issue Newbie

.....and now the time has come, to replace, my buggered gasket..... Yep, I knew it was only a matter of time so getting ready to spend spend spend.... Just need a little advice. I'm from the days of working on Austin 1100's, Triumph 2000's and other old stuff. I've replaced many H/G in my...

Newbie with a key fob question

I think you've missed my point above. Because of the cost (the dealer wanted £90 each) I just went to my local key cutter and got 2 standard unchipped keys cut - about 3 quid each. The idea is to then keep the chipped 'clever' key tucked away under the dash near the ignition lock. That way the...

Newbie with a key fob question

Ref the 'key or fob' that starts the engine. The wizzardry is in the key cover. The fob only locks/unlocks the vehicle, it plays no part in the starting. I got a duplicate key cut at the local locksmiths and although it opened the doors and turned the ignition lock, it didn't start the...
