Freelander 2 problem

After two months (2500 miles) of ownership I've got my first mechanical on the FL2...

It's an intermittent fault, but has happened for the last 4 days running. It's basically a juddering seemingly coming from the drivetrain, but possibly a misfire (TD4 by the way). It only happens when the engine is under load, i.e. any amount of pressure on the throttle is enough to trigger the knocking, back off and it stops. First noticed it cruising at around 40mph in 4th gear, but it has got progressively worse so that it can happen in any gear/speed. Sometimes it takes 30 mins or so of driving before the problem occurs, but other times it can be within 5 minutes of starting up.

Dealer taking it in today, but anyone want to speculate on the possible cause?

No VCU on FL2, it has an automatic locking rear diff, if the front breaks traction, the rear diff comes into play using a clutch, most of the time the prop "free wheels", essentially is a two wheel drive car most of the time.

This car is so new that we have yet so see any common problems with them, fault could be anything and unless LR have released a bulliten on your type of problem then your dealer may have your car for some time and be racking their brains as to what it could be. LR tech support probably wont know whats causing it either.

At a guess, I'd say it might be caused by driveshafts, we've had one in where a drive shaft was causing a problem, the splines wern't machined properly.

ROFWL - like the slitty then - mite be easier to fit tho

"its a crap car?"

They're changing the propshaft - "has excessive play".

dint bode well..2500miles and the prop is fooked! or are they just guessing at what the ISSUE is

"yes" and "yes", I think. The prop is fooked, but the real issue is "why?"

these are far from being crap and it seems that even though they have a few niggly probs there have been no where near as many probs any of the other models had at release,

things go wrong on cars,even new ones. landrovers are no worse than other makes.eg-
my other half got brand new fiesta a couple of years ago,driveshaft failed after 500 miles!!,
me grandad also has one which needed a new gearbox after 25k.
bloke at work had brand new nissan primera whch went back to dealers 18 times in 3 years.
i'm now on my 5th landrover,had 2 300tdi discos, a 200tdi disco, currently got freelander and a series 3 and have never had any of them break down on me. yes i've had the odd bit here and there thats needed replacing but they are used cars so you expect that.
anyway if freelanders are that ****e why did landrover sell so many and why have we all got one?- is it so we can spend all day on this forum moaning like fook that it's broken down?

Have to agree mate at work bought a brand new nissan X-Trail last may in Oct clutch knack*** 5,400 miles no towing and e's like a Sunday driver. Stealers tried well did fob im off wi fair wear an tear wanted 1200 squid coz they said clutch wozn't covered by warranty after 6mths as it's not major mechanical, argued toss ended up paying 800 squid so the rigden's absolutely right ya buys a car ya takes ya chance new or old.

some peeps buy Nissans and have no trubble sum peeps buy 1.8 hippoos and have no trubble - wudnt bet next months wages on it tho.

A year plus on but I have just had the same problem. Answer is faulty Haldex unit. Mine under warranty but dread to think what it would have cost otherwise.
