Freelander 1 Diesel runaway on video....

Sorry disagree... I've personally done it on a Zafira which started to blow at traffic lights in front of me and no injuries. Because of the dynamics of it and valve timing etc. a diesel engine (especially turbocharged) is not an effective vacuum pump. In any event you could cut the hose and...

Freelander 1 Diesel runaway on video....

On an auto you would need to cut one of the rubber pipes on the air inlet tract and block it...

    Wheels & Tyres

As he said... but you do need to consider what the vehicle will be used for. If most of your driving is on-road with the odd green lane then 17" with the Yoki's will not disappoint. However if you are a farmer then you may be better off with the smaller rims and a higher profile tyre. Would...

Freelander 1 mot not wof just mot

The current MOT test covers only the statutory vehicle lighting system, so additional lights would only be a fail if they were the wrong colour. I haven't seen anything in the new draft to indicate any change to that.

Disco 2 Converting Spring to AIR... thats right

I have towed a 3 ton trailer with a D2 on air and then again about a month later after it was converted to springs. It towed much better on air and was more stable....

Freelander 1 mot not wof just mot

It's May that things are changing, I posted a link a few days ago, it's been widely done on other forums. FYI the trailer lighting socket is already a testable item if it is a 13-pin one. I've already bought a EGR valve and pipe for my Disco on e-bay whilst you can still get them.... Other...

As the others have already said - what you really need now is another mechanic... (who knows what he is doing).

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Put my 1997 300 Tdi Disco on ramps and power washed the underside and chassis prior to doing to MOT prep welding. I normally use an angle grinder to remove old, corroded sills but as it turns our a Bosch pressure washer is just as effective. Or could it be my sills were made of Weetabix?

Sticky? Britpart bits tried and trusted.

Fitted a Britpart clutch kit to my 300 Tdi Disco last year that I had bought in 2011 for my last Disco but never fitted. Had to throw out release bearing as it was not centred (i.e. bearing face was not in the middle of the hole for the input shaft). Bought a brand new one - also Britpart -...

    New tailgate regulator

^^^^^ This. If you disconnect the battery of a few minutes, when you re-connect it the window should go all the way down. You then press and hold the button (with ignition on) to raise it again, keep the button pressed for about 2 seconds after it has fully risen. That should sort it.

    Insa turbo ranger

It might be cheaper to buy a set of 16" rims - much more choice and lower cost tyres then.

Freelander Prep for towing a Caravan

Agree with this 100%, check tyres, wheel bearings, brakes, lights - and know the law. You must have a brake away cable which attaches to the car and operates the caravan brakes in the event they part company. Some DVSA inspectors can get quite 5h1tty about how the break away cable is attached...

    MOT Changes May 2018

Apologies if someone has already posted this but I've just seen it for the first time. The is a draft so it may change... https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/671818/mot-inspection-manual-for-classes-3-4-5-and-7-from-20-may-2018-draft.pdf Big changes are...

    Freelander 1 2004 Facelift TD4 - Error Code P0100 MAF short circuit

Yep agree with all that. I've seen cheapo tuning boxes before which are just a resistor or something to fiddle the sensor reading. Same as driving a old petrol car with the choke out and saying you've souped it up... But yes, the ECU can detect when the MAF is there or not. The MAF is a...

    Freelander 1 2004 Facelift TD4 - Error Code P0100 MAF short circuit

Yes it has an EGR blank fitted. Unusually there is no sign of the exhaust gas pipe, the last few I'd looked at the old exhaust gas pipe is usually attached to the side of the EGR blank - on this one it is missing... I will trace it back at some point out of curiosity to see what's been done to...

    Freelander 1 2004 Facelift TD4 - Error Code P0100 MAF short circuit

Just an update... not solved this yet as been bizzy with Christmas, problems with the wife’s car, doing tax return now and a few other tasks inconsiderately eating into my weekends... however will get back to it maybe this weekend coming or next. To recap, engine smoking and misfiring around...

Other Be careful what yer tow

I don't think speculating how cross examination in court would go is relevant or helpful. As you eluded there are a number of scenarios in real life where people to become very experienced at certain tasks develop and "instinct" and sometimes do things which "aren't in the books" but work in...

Other Be careful what yer tow

I would also add the there are several reasons why a trailer might be likely to snake (resonate), for some of these reasons the corrective actions could be contributory to other scenarios. I know I will be teaching some of you to suck eggs but others might find it useful. - Incorrectly loaded...
