New tailgate regulator

Hi all I'm new to this site so please bear with me! well, I have a freelander 1 td4 5 door on a 02 plate and ive just replaced the tailgate regulator and the wiring snapped in 2 places! I bought a whole new kit rather than a repair jobbie, as being female looked to much knowledge for my liking! anyway, the problem I'm having is after fitting etc it doesn't seem to want to calibrate! The glass clamps are in the up position and i cant get them down far enough to loosen off, so I can't shut tailgate because glass is in the way! Can someone please help a bird out that is giving it ago?????????.........PLEASE?

Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery should drive the window down. What position were the glass clamps when you fitted the regulator?

^^^^^ This. If you disconnect the battery of a few minutes, when you re-connect it the window should go all the way down. You then press and hold the button (with ignition on) to raise it again, keep the button pressed for about 2 seconds after it has fully risen. That should sort it.
