Big Stripdown and Weld thread 300tdi

Looking at your pics takes me back a few years, did all that and it is still on the road. Your chassis crossmember, the one the rear seat belts bolt through the floor too, looks not too bad, I had to get my mate to fabricate a complete new one. I cut the old one out, welded 3mm plate across the...

    Boot floor - nice surprise!

Wow, wish mine had been so easy! I made all new floor supports myself, went a bit overboard but should outlast me! Notice the chassis crossmember that your rear seatbelts bolt thru to, mine was completely rotten so had to replace the WHOLE THING!! Where your dickie seats bolt in look perfect...

    Broken top rear shock mount

Hi, you just need to cut the nuts off with a disc cutter, knock the bolts thru and replace the mounts. They are not expensive, around 11 or 12 pounds each, just did mine recently.

Chassis Cleaning, Protection and Body Corrosion

I've had to plate my chassis, all at the rear, in various bits using 3mm plate. Honestly, I think the previous owner must have reversed it into the sea! I even had to replace the big crossmember just to the front of the fuel tank. Regarding the paint, there are bits on my chassis where the paint...

    Rust never sleeps

You are not alone!! That's so familiar, just like looking in my garage!! I was about to fit my new wheel arch last week, but found a hole in the bottom of the sill where arch welds on. As usual one hole turned into ten, and this weekend I removed the complete inner and outer sill, hopefully get...

Bit of a build/repair thread (boot & body mounts)

Well i wish my disco had as little rust as that! I have already fitted complete new inner wings from YRM earlier in the year and a complete new driver side sill. Back on the road for a wee while, then a bit of poking around resulted in the boot floor and adjacent panels all being ripped out...

    New alternator kills rev counter

Not sure where the black wire went, it was under one of the other ones so hanging free, took a 50/50 guess and seems to be wrong one, will have to have another look! Thanks for now.

    New alternator kills rev counter

Hi all. Just fitted a new alternator to my mates '95 300 Tdi. When i took the wires off there was the heavy cable to the battery on one round terminal, a smaller wire on the other round terminal, and one push on blade type, all easy peasy. However (there always is!), when i connected the new one...

    Leaking Sunroof

Regarding the roof lining, i removed mine in about 30 mins with only my 9 yr old daughter for a help! I then hosed the car to death to find no leaks from the sunroofs at all. My leaks were coming from between where the roof meets the body side panels and the factory sealant had cracked allowing...

    Uneven stance.

Hi Chaps, i have a 300Tdi which i have owned for a few years now. It has always sat a bit lower at the offside, both at the front and the back. I recently decided to sort this out so i fitted new springs and gas dampers on the front, and new springs to the rear. The thing is ,it is still sitting...

    Another leak,,not sunroof!!

Hello chaps, looking for some inspiration. Being driven mad with leaks from my 300tdi roof, and having read all too often about leaky sunroofs etc, decided to fix it once and for all. I have already sealed (ahem!) around the outside seal on the roof to try and fix this but with no success. I...

    ABS problems

Alright folks.I had the same problem on my '95 300Tdi and i ended up removing the ABS bulb and fuses as it seemd a lot easier than getting to the bottom of the problem! I know it's a last resort but it passes the Mot and gives you one less thing to worry about! Bye for now.

    ABS air gaps

Regarding the hub, if you have any wear at all, the sensor ring can push the sensor slightly further away on the " high " side then the sensor is further away on the " low " side, and your light comes on. You can tap them in to your hearts content but they can get pushed ever so slightly out...

    Td5 wheels on 300 Tdi

Thanks for all the answers,, appreciate it. I have definetely lived up to my name tonight,, just bought a complete V8 Disco for £250!! There is the small point of it not running, but the engine is turning over and i like a challenge. I took my 7 year old daughter with me and she had the torch...

I have also got my EGR blanked off, was not a problem. Good job oil leaks don't fail, will need to get my monoblock cleaned. Not bad for...
