I have a 9-monthg old Defender (Puma) County, only 5000 miles. Seats in top condition. About to swap them for leather (heated). PM me if interested, looking for £250 for the pair.

    Great Disco, rotten chassis

Galvanised is best, if you then rebuild carefully (copper brake pipes etc) it really should last for years to come. If not galvanised then the dinitrol/waxoyl is a long discussion. For me, dinitrol every time, use cavity wax inside the chassis, and rustproofer outside. Lasts better than...

Disco 2 Genuine vs Aftermarket Disks and Pads

Nope - moved to a Defender 110. A new Utility Station Wagon. I didn't like the D3/D4, a bit too "bling" for me. A few design issues (like the rear tailgate, and spare-under-boot-floor) didn't work for me, and just put me off. the 110 Defender has a better load capacity (than D2), and the...

Disco 2 Genuine vs Aftermarket Disks and Pads

I've had two sets of the Paddock kit. A fred-bloggs disk, but mintex pads. They were absolutely fine! Front: BRAKEKIT5 Rear: BRAKEKIT6 I also ordered a couple of the retaining screws, because you usually knacker the heed of at least 1 screw when changing the disk. (i know some people...

The first things to do with a disco TD5

IMHO "improving" it depends what you want to do with it. If lots of offroad, and you don't have a CDL, have a look at the Ashcroft centre difflock kit - lots of off-roaders swear by them (see August LRO on modded Disco's). I like All Terrain tyres. Had BFG AT's which were excellent...

    Pre or Post Facelift TD5?

IIRC most of the fixes were done in 2001, so the last of the pre-facelift vehicles were "improved" from chassis number 2A236340 on pre-facelift cars. These improvements were things like the locating dowels in the cylinder head being improved by using metal instead of plastic (affected all...

    td5 struggles to start

When you turn the key on, but before engaging the starter motor, you should hear the fuel pump whirring under the drivers side wheelarch. If it sounds like there are air bubbles in the system, then air has gotten into the system. Purge as per advice above (see handbook). The other...

Replacement Ignition Keys for Disco TD5

See this also Land Rover Discovery II My local Indie did mine for £30 but I had completely lost the old key. He supplied a new genuine key, and programmed it to the car. Great service...but he's in Edinburgh (and you may not live anywhere near!)...

Air Con Fix - Is it worth it to DIY?

Yup - mine's been broken for a few years. One or two days a year it makes the car uncomfortable, I leave a window down or sun roof open. If I was ordering a new car, I wouldn't pay for A/C as an extra....but then again I live in Scotland :) If I take the Disco back abroad in summer, I...

What mileage is your Disco 2 on?

182,000 miles, and I'm the original owner! It had 4 delivery miles when I bought it new in 2002... Wonder how the poll would be if it were aimed at original owners (or "how many miles have YOU done in your Disco")?

D2 td5 no power at low revs

I was wondering if it could be: 1. turbo related? All these people are selling silicone turbo hose kits, but I am unsure of the effects of a collapsed/split turbo hose? 2. Have you changed the air filter recently, could that help? I guess either of these would upset the MAF, and cause...

ACE conversion looking likely now, need advice

I've been de-ACE for about 3 years. If you have coil springs, there is no real differemce. On Air-Bags the car does lean a bit more in corners. For me it's a no-brainer, I would take it off every time.

TD5 fuel Tank Capacity.. MPG Calc...?

I'm about the same, but onluy if I drive really carefully. Normally just over 550 miles till the light comes on, about 34 to gallon. Best in summer - drops in winter, and also when towing.

    Galvanised chassis

With the number of D2's on the streets, and reports of early models having rusty chassis, it's only a matter of time before the Chassis manufacturer's (Marslands, Richards, BARTtec etc) recognise the market. ...seen his website ( http://www.designa-chassis.co.uk/company.asp ) - looks like he...

    Battery suggestions

My Disco is used in much the same way. It's no longer the "main" car in the family, and gets used for hobbies (climbing trips, mountain bike carrying, kayak carrying) and trailer-towing. The battery is the original (9 years old). And I don't have starting issues. Last year it was left in...

Disco td5 air in fuel system

Does it start OK? Have a search for Injector Seals on here - that's where mine was drawing air from, but it usually makes them hard to start as well... http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/td5-fuel-pump-whinning-bubbling-152661.html http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/air-fuel-system-57012.html

    disco td5 diesel fuel consumption

I average about 31. Best ever was 34 on a long 500 mile motorway trip sitting just under 70mph. AT tyres (30psi front, 40 psi rear) well maintained, standard (EGR still on) manual box, aircon off always because I live in Scotland :) Towing a trailer, fully loaded drops to about 26-28.
