ok here goes.

about a week ago my girlfriend ran out of diesel so she put some in but of course there was air in so she had someone to come and look at it. but ever since then it takes a few attempts to start her up any one got any ideas.

i have heard things about spark plug needing cleaning and changing the fuel fillter or pump. but just want to run it by you lot to see if you may know the problem.

cheers

Diesel dosen't have spark plugs. and did they use easy start to restart the motor when it ran out of fuel? If they did use easy start to restart then the glow plugs are burnt and need to be replaced

replace filter in drivers side rear wheel arch remove 4 time pipe connectors one at a time and 1 will have reed style non reurn valve and i a restrictor + filter clean both ,do one at a time so you dont get them in wrong order

try self bleed turn on ignision pump acelorater pedal 5 times the car will do the rest

do i turn the ignition to the point where to fuel pump starts or press the pedal when i am turning it over

To bleed the fuel system using the LR method you just do the following:

1. Turn the ignition on to pos. II so you can hear the pump working - DO NOT START THE ENGINE.

2. Leave for thee minutes, then start the engine and go for a drive. It should have fully purged the system of air by now.

ok i changed filter and still having the same problem. starting tio thing it is fuel pump. is there any way to clean the filter actually on the pump..

From that I can remember there is no filter on the pump it's self.

Can you hear the pump running when you turn the key to the second postion? you should be able to hear a whinning noise. No noise = fook pump.

Sounds like air in the system. You can force the engine to purge air by turning key to position 2 and then press the accelerator down 5 times. Do not touch anything, the engine light will flash and you will hear whining, whooshing and all sorts of weird noises for roughly 3 mins. When engine light has stoppped flashing, turn key to position 3 but DO NOT press accelerator. Should start. If not, poss Injector seals, Fuel Pressure Regulator or chafed fuel line.
There IS a filter in the in tank pump, I have cleaned mine in the past, it was full of sooty black stuff which in hindsight was caused by injector washers leaking combustion gases into fuel. Remove pump (carefully) pop the 4 lines of, (colour coded) then Very carefully use a small flat screwdriver to pop out the 3 x clips on the top of the pump that locate into the body. V small and fiddly. There is a drop dowm plastic screen filter on the bottom of the pump and a brass/copper mesh gauze inside. Good luck.

i have already done the procidure for purgeing the air and has made no difference
rear wheel arch drivers side check the valves on feul filter 4 of them 2 in 2 out on filter head inside the filter head there is a mesh filter and asyembly valve cheap to replace the last thing i done on mine after spendin 700 on other bits like new pump /feul regulater n so on that didny work . after replcing valves about 2.50 each cured the same problem for me
