How well does the disco do in the snow then?

Getting to that season again so got thinking..

Had an old rav4 over last year's snow, which surprisingly was amazing in the snow even on road tyres.

I'm wondering that with double the weight of a rav4, whether it'll perform that well in the snow and ice? Will have a set of Insa Turbo Dakar's on it by then.

Hoping to use it to take and tow snowboarders out and up hills.

How was everyone else's discos last year?

Got copies of Insa Turbo mud tyres on my Disco and I towed a 40 tonne artic up an icey hill so I reckon you'll be alright.

Same as every 4X4 not bad. As good as the person in control

Still badgering my mate to send me the shakey photos he took. Only been 10 months.

I wish I'd had someone with me to take anysort of photo....

After towing cars n vans all day it were almost a religious experience

I got a standard disco with road tyres and it coped well in the snow towed a few people
I got a another disco with chunkys on so roll on the snow

The discovery copes very well in the snow on what ever tyers. The only thing that let's it down is the squidge bit that holds the steering wheel

Mine did good and unlike co-pang i got a picy, wot me showing orf...................most definatly disco's are great in the snow but can be a bit scary when trying to stop them on the slippery stuff

I havent had the td5 on the slippy stuff yet. but the old 300tdi is like a pig in muck loves it.

best bit about snow is the white-laning, for those that dont know it's greenlaning in the snow.
mines on BFG AT's and had no problems, didnt do anything heroic as everyone round here seems to keep an old 4x4 for snowy weather and those that dont cadge a lift

Main thing is having decent tyres.

It's worth keeping in mind that pretty much any 4x4 with traction control with like for like tyres will most likely outpform a disco 300 tdi in our typical snow conditions, even a gaylander. (I have seen this demonstrated)

I thought the weight could be a bit of an issue when trying not to slide off things on corners etc.

Why so, traction control really a big plus then?

I drove my rav4 out from a standstill with 3-4ft of snow in front of it, then drove 20+ miles on closed roads in the worst of it. Up and down massive hills towing people etc. I put most of it's ability down to weight really. Plus 2 litre petrol helps.

Ravs bounce off walls, it's a tried and tested fact
