Great Disco, rotten chassis

Just had the clutch replaced in my 2003 Disco 2 commercial and the garage showed me the state of the chassis. Basically, it's riddled with holes and much of the surface is flaking off in large chunks. This van lived most of its life in Scotland so I guess it's a consequence of the salty roads around Aberdeen.

The rest of the truck is in very good shape and I don't really want a different one so, does anyone know how much a new replacement chassis is? I don't think they're available from anyone but LR themselves but please do tell me I'm wrong and recommend a supplier.

And then, how should I protect a new chassis? Waxoil, Hammerite, oil? What's the current favourite?

Thank you all for your help.

Galvanised is best, if you then rebuild carefully (copper brake pipes etc) it really should last for years to come.

If not galvanised then the dinitrol/waxoyl is a long discussion.

For me, dinitrol every time, use cavity wax inside the chassis, and rustproofer outside. Lasts better than waxoyl.

Thanks, everyone. I think then there are no galvanised chassis available for the disco 2 and the genuine LR one is too expensive to contemplate. So, plating and protecting is the only way... Oh, well.
