19j clutch job - remove gearbox or engine?

I need to replace the friction plate on a D reg 1987 19j 90. Its a first time thing for me. To save up to £700.00 quid I've opted to do it myself. The questions are: those of you who have replaced the friction plate on a 19j what problems did you happen across (any tips?) and is it easier to...

Prat sparked battery - now, weird stuff

A kind 'friend' accidentally touched wrench to metal whilst refitting a fully charged battery, resulting in sparks. Now, the D reg 90 won't start and when the key is turned it takes ages before the initial dashboard lights come on. Add to that if I attempt to turn it over the dashboard lights go...

Recommend anywhere Norfolk/Suffolk border and cost of clutch repair for 90?

Not having the right gear etc to do it myself can anyone recommend anywhere/anyone on the Suffolk/Norfolk border (wider Diss area) for repairing a clutch plate issue? And, from experience any idea of typical costs? Its a D reg 1987 model DT 90 Thanks

Anyone able to help with clutch plate issue?

It never rains, it pours. After solving one Landy 90 issue I get another. Could be worse... I was informed by the friendly RAC bloke that the 1987 90 needed a new clutch plate (noticeable by the smell of caustic burning plastic etc?) as the old ones were cream crackered. Is there anyone in the...

    Wiper motor issue?

My wiper motor is making a 'rough' sound when I activate the front wipers on the 1987 90. The wipers don't always work. Would I be right in assuming that it is on its last legs? (the wiper motor). If so, does anyone have a suitable one they no longer need?

    Weird lighting - 1987 90

When I put the main beam on the main front light on the passenger side goes out and only comes back on with the main beam off. It appears that the vehicle is an ex military 90 - could this have a bearing on the bulbs etc?). Does anyone have any experience of this and possibly a solution?

Victim of city driving - no high or low ratio

After sorting out the faulty starter motor the old beast of a td 2.5 90 (1987 model) has done it again. A case of cityitus syndrome? I get the revs, can change gear but, get no motion. I had it (very helpfully) looked at by a kind gent who suggested that there was a diff lock issue - not going...

correct wiring for starter motor, help!

Helping a friend connect a starter motor in a 1987 90 2.5 td (19j). The starter motor has fitted ok, the 'bunch' of wires/clip on wire have been fitted to the top section leaving a black cable from the chasis and the live from the battery. The question is where do these two fit? Neither of us...

    Starter motor refit issues

I removed a starter motor (an old Valeo model) from a 1987 90 2.5 TD. I have been assured that the replacement (a Lucas model) will fit. However, I can't get the screw holes to line up (I believe that part of the starter motor unit is preventing me from turning the s. motor sufficiently to line...

locating earth points in td 90 (1987)

I'm in the process of trying to eliminate the reasons as to why the TD 90 (19j) won't start. I'm guessing the solenoid, start motor or a bad earth. So far, I've checked and cleaned the earth point that's bolted to the gearbox area. I assume that there are others (near headlights and under the...

Help - starter motor or solonoid issue?

I've been overhauling a TD Defender 90 (1987 year). The engine doesn't start. The lights work ok. When I turn the key there is a single click and nothing more other than a slight dimming of the lights. The solonoid and wiring was checked, the battery is fully charged (the solonoid was replaced...
