    Disco 2 ACE Pipe

Thanks Chaps, Useful comments (and I had no idea that a harmonic valve was involved, what does it do?). Since writing I have discovered that I can indeed get a pattern part to replace the old one. Eric at Salop 4 x 4 handily provided a part number (RQB000280) and suddenly they were everywhere...

    Disco 2 ACE Pipe

Afternoon All, Removed the PUMP to VALVE BLOCK (corroded) pipe on my 1999 TD5 ACE system after it leaked away nearly all the fluid; fortunate that I was on short trip. I think it may have been previously replaced as it is split by a union inside the wheel arch. Bit of a fiddle but I thought I...

To ACE or not to ACE

Thanks to all, I particularly like the idea of a modification to take hydraulic hoses; why didn't the lads at Solihull use them in the first place? It seems that opinion is divided on ACE and all for sound reasoning. My experience is that it does feel better when comparing with my old Tdi200...

To ACE or not to ACE

Dear All, My 1999 TD5 suffered an ACE failure today, piddling fluid down a couple of miles of lanes before a red flashing light and warning bell sounding. Back home I discovered one of the rear pipes perforated by corrosion where it joins the big valve block. Questions: Can I rig it somehow to...

    Disco 2 Offside rear sag

Dear All, Just noticed this and measured 20mm difference in spring length. Question: I can't see any break in the coil spring so is there any other way this could come about. I expect it will be a spring problem but thought I would consult before getting out the spanners. TD5 1999V Pat

    TD5 Keyfob

The switches seem bullet-proof it's the flexible rubber/composite stuff that fails after a million or so operations. Come to think of, my motor is 1999 Vreg about 16years old; average say 5 'pushes/day 16x5x356=29200: nowhere near a million. Rubbish!

    TD5 Keyfob

Thanks Chaps, Maybe I had a bad one (fleabay) . I had to push the button quite hard and watch for the red indicator to flash. I gave up when I noticed the indicator continually flashing and had to pull the fob apart on a car park at night and push the switches on the circuit board to get into...

    TD5 Keyfob

Dear All, The flexible buttons on all my keyfobs have dropped to bits. I bought a replacement for for a couple of quid but found it so poorly 'copied' that I even took the time to send it back.. The problem is with the stiffness of the rubber part. Also the key blade is a poor fit in the...

D2 Rear Wiper Problem and some 3 Amigos comment

Quick follow-up Complete strip and clean of motor/wiper drive and it works (even with the back door open). So the fault was always, probably, a mechanically stalled motor; I even had to 'dress' the nylon gear wheel and certainly clean corrosion from running parts. Great joy and saving £40-80...

D2 Rear Wiper Problem and some 3 Amigos comment

Dear All, Autumn is come to the leafy lanes of Staffordshire and, right on cue, my rear wiper has suddenly (no earlier signs of failure) stopped working. There is no power on the main motor plug (smaller two wire connector) when I operate the switch but I can see 12V on the larger 3 wire...

    2001 td5 pressurising cooling system

Yes, I ran mine for months (see posts) in this condition. Even the garage men where loathe to take the head off before lots of other messing around. The 'wise men' of the forum had little doubt of the diagnosis and, eventually, I persuaded my local garage to 'do the head'. £800 pound later and...

Oil change AND coolant pressure resolved

Dear James, Thanks. OK I will change the centrifugal filter and I think 6k is about right. As for the garage-men who did the head, I think they had some idea of what was required but they are not specialists; so I don't know if the injectors were set (how is this done?). I think the thicker...

Oil change AND coolant pressure resolved

Dear All, Finally made the move to rural Staffordshire on retiring (originally living in Manchester). Seems to be affecting my brain as I cannot find the oil change interval for my TD5 (I think it is 6kmiles) in the works manual. Also I noticed that there is a rotor to be changed in a...

TD5 Metal Coolant Pipe Cost EEK!

Dear All, After months of watching the top-hose getting ever 'fatter'; changing the thermostat; flushing and (in this thread) replacing the, quite complicated, metal pipework ( Devon Landrover £100 2nd hand), I was again preparing to visit yet another garage-man for, probably, a new head...

TD5 Metal Coolant Pipe Cost EEK!

Dear All, The continuing saga of my pressurising cooling system, with thanks to the previous replies from the 'wise men'. Been running with the 'fat top hose' condition for the last six months. Finally decided to get the head gasket done by my local specialist. Strangely the advice was "well it...

    TD5 Sloppy Gearchange

Thanks chaps. The springs are ok but I will need to remove the tunnel cover to check the other bits. The rubber cover is however coming to bits. Oh well... Pat

    TD5 Sloppy Gearchange

Dear All, Just noticed that my gear change suddenly seems to have got a little less positive. Still completely driveable but seems to need a bit more care in selecting gear. I noticed this when I struggled to move across from neutral for 1/2 when pulling away. Does this indicate a problem...

    TD5 ABS/TC/HDC On Amber

Dear All, Just recently an for no obvious reason the ABS, TC, and Hill Descent (with audible warning) all light up amber. Vehicle drives fine and lights reset after switching off. Also the ACE light has always lit up (amber again) during a long drive. Anybody else seen this. Best, Pat

    TD5 Cooling problem

Dear All, Belated Happy New Year/Easter (even). After more than three months I thought I should follow up from my original report. As I said my garage man would not replace the head gasket as he said there was no evidence that this was the problem. Since then I have driven it (motorway/urban)...

    TD5 Cooling problem

Dear All, Firstly: Advent Greetings Now the "here we go again" script;99 TD5 140,000 miles On the motorway after dark, sudden power loss which made me notice the temperature gauge was nearly in the red (normally rock solid never moves after warming up). Also noticed heater was blowing cold so...
