    big bang? :(

Have a look at the vcu, there is a steel band (weight) around the circumpherence of the unit. Mine came adrift last year - loud bang followed by clunking under the handbrake area. Can get a kit to repair on fleabay for about £80, but I went the full hog with a Bell engineering recon.

Bell recon & prop bearings fitted .

Agreed, My 2006 TD4 with 91k felt much smoother and 'looser' with new VC and bearings. I am lucky to live 20 mins away from Ken, both he and his wife very helpful

Rattling/Banging noise from underneath 1998 freelander.

Mine went last week, elected to buy a recon from Bell Engineering, as my mileage is 90k. Can buy a repair kit but at £77 + vat versus £200 for a new one seemed best thing to do. Easy to spot, look at the VCU, if there is a big black metal band dangling round it - that's your man.

    Weird noise from rear

I had the pulsating groaning noise from the rear on braking, drove me mad. When stationary and engine turned off, press brake pedal down hard, you will probably get a creaking noise from the brake drums. My mechanic friend stripped down the drums and found that the pistons were partially seized...

    Towbar Extension Needed?

I had trouble opening the anti snake handle far enough to get the hitch on the ball, I had to remove the spare. I purchased the 4x4 handle on fleabay....no probs now. Why did Alko use a different tow ball ?........seems silly when it can cause such catastrophic accident if this info is not known.

Help to report a UK trader

Report it to the trading standards hotline.....My Freelander had been 'clocked' by 20 k, can't see why, as it was a dirt cheap 3 year old @ 83 k with comprehensive service history. They took the chap to court as there was 'history' and I received 1k compo. Nice 3yr old (56 reg) for £5200. Still...

What do you love your Freelander?

Had my 2006 td4 adventurer for 3.5 yrs...the longest I've ever owned a car. Can't see the sense in getting rid, as nothing other than service items go wrong. Pulls the Caravan with ease, MPG good, and I can't see anything else to really fit the bill. With the price of Diesel, will need to get a...

    MOT Pass!!!!!

Depends how good you are, and as they are life and death components leave to the professionals if not confident. I remember changing them years ago when money was scarce, theory easy but in practice many things can go wrong, particularly when making up the pipes....flaring corectly, pipes...

    Trip meter

Funny you should say that mark666, My fuse blew, hadn't noticed until the other day, thought it may have been due to leak through aerial. Didn't notice till i started searching that the clock was not working either. Changed the fuse and low and behold i am now up to 50 miles on my trip. Couldn't...

    Fitting CB Radio into Freelander

Update. Finally went for the drivers glovebox option. Took the cover off and placed it in the little cubby next to the fuse box -'fits like a glove' width wise as there is a grove moulded into the plastic which holds the unit snuggly in place. Cut the back of the cubby out for access or deeper...
