Hi,
Picking up on this old thread, could Teddywood 1 tell us how to feed the aerial wire through, and also how does the sunglasses holder come out. I have taken the rings out, but it still seems as though the liner is attached to something - don't want to be too rough in case its damaged

Where is your antenna mounted? Mine is on the light bar but its only temporary so it's just coming through the passenger door seal. When it's permanent, it will come out the boot.

Mick 1986,

I will be mounting my aerial on the rear door by means of a hatch mount which bolts on the side of the door. Have sent a PM to Teddywood 1 to ask for help in feeding cable through. Have not decided yet whether to mount the cb in the sunglasses cubby or the drivers side glovebox.

I put mine on the centre of dash next to the clock cluster, it's a good fit between the clock and the front of the dash.

If your mounting it there, run the cable in through the door brake wires and then under the plastic trims from the boot, down the side of the rear seats and under the trim, then the same with the fronts, then behind the dash and up to where you mount your radio.

The other alternative if you like it on the dash is remove the rubber mat in the centre (assuming pre facelift). There should be an open hole where a plug on the rubber mat sat in. Using a junior hacksaw blade, file out slots in the corners by a few MM, just enough to have a little flexing. Then insert a bolt, upside down which can just be popped into the hole, with enough size so that it wont come out easily. Then get a washer and a nut, and secure that bolt in place (ensure there is enough thread left for a wingnut). Then put the CB bracket in place over the previous nut, and then tighten with a wingnut (to aid removal or use a normal nut or nylock). When you come to sell on the freebie, you can take everything out, and put the mat back and it will look as good as before.

To remove the liner you need to drop the headlining. There's a screw from the rear at the back.

Hi this is the way I run the coax through the door without going over the door seals first of all is to take the door card off there are 4 screws right at the bottom take these out then pull the door card upwards and out wards.
Then from the outside of the door thred the coax under the bottom hinge then on the inside run it to the top of the hinge and into the door (there is a hole at top and bottom of hinges ) this stops a lot of extra water getting in and doing it on the bottom hinge takes it away for the window . Then there is a hole at the bottom of the door (last picture) thred it through there and now you are inside the car without drilling or going over the seals .Please make sure it is clear of the window .on the freelander face lift it is slightly different as you will have to come in by the top hinge.
This is my way it is upto you if you want to do this or not, I take no reposibility for loss or damage
Eddie

Sorry Eddie, cant seem to copy photo's across

Update.
Finally went for the drivers glovebox option. Took the cover off and placed it in the little cubby next to the fuse box -'fits like a glove' width wise as there is a grove moulded into the plastic which holds the unit snuggly in place. Cut the back of the cubby out for access or deeper position. Drilled a big hole through the outer skin of the box and a smaller one in the inner skin so that a bolt will pass through into the cb. Power from the cigar lighter and aerial thread through from rear door.
Not the best place for visability of the unit, but I feel the best option - unless you can tell me better

Here's where mines fitted in my facelift, hard wired into the wires for the aux socket under the centre console. :)
