    Rough idle

Ive run my hand under the inlet manifold gasket before and found no trace of coolant, but i guess as you say, it could be leaking internally, although there is coolant on the floor. i'll have another check of this, thanks for the reply

    Rough idle

Hi All, 2000 X 1.8 petrol k series Freelander with 93000 miles done. Hope someone has an idea on this.... I'm getting rough running from a cold start, almost feels like running on 3 cylinders or similar, but this clears within 100 yards then runs fine apart from an erratic tick over, it...

    Leaking Again.....

Thanks for the replies, went all over looking for a leak to no avail, so been topping up and bleeding air out every 2 days. However, water level has remained stable now for a week!!!! So I'm thinking maybe a bad airlock, as the last time I topped it up it took 3/4 litre and nothing since...

    Leaking Again.....

Thanks for the reply Yeah, this was my thought, but I've peeled back the wheel arch liner and also the sump guard and cant see any evidence of water coming from the pump or on the belts, sat n stared at the pump for ages! No old crusty water stains either. I'd set it on fire but it leaks so much...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

I've just had a similar problem, the day after my MOT! Had blocked oilways forcing oil straight out the exhaust and thereby burning off in the exhaust, mucho smoke out the back but only after about 3 miles, before that I guess the exhaust wasn't hot enough to burn the oil. I'm also losing...

    Leaking Again.....

Hi all, X reg 1.8 petrol Freelander with 92,500 miles up. Headgasket done at 48k. Got a coolant leak and for the life of me I cant trace it. I've had the Head Gasket 'sniff' tested and it proved negative, although having had the oil changed straight after there is a small amount of moisture...

Suspension Bumping Noise Driving Me Mad!!!

ok, thanks, if it ever stops raining again I'll get under it for the umpteenth time and have a poke round with a big stick!

    Another annoying bump

Oh, forgot to say, on the antiroll bar there should be 2 round sort of plastic washers about 10mm wide and 3 mm thick, these sit immediately to the side of the clamps that hold the bushes in place. They stop the bar moving from side to side and clonking on the suspension apparently. My moneys...

Suspension Bumping Noise Driving Me Mad!!!

hi all, I have a 2000 x reg freelander 1.8 petrol with 72k up that has a heavy thumping noise from the front suspension area when on a bumpyish road, quiet as you like on the M/Way. There is also a slight squeaking over speed bumps. Its been in the garage twice for it and they cant find a...

    Another annoying bump

Hi, had the exact same thing on my 1.8, changed the drop links, these attach to the anti roll bar, and problem sorted. They did not look or feel worn and I had to insist my Honest mechanic change them on the off chance (£55 all in). Worth doing the antiroll bar bushes at same time as they are...

    Front wheel clonking

Nah, 99 per cent sure its from the front passenger side. From what ive read about the VCU thing it doesnt sound like that, i have no tightening up when turning. Its the whole quietened down when i did the subframe thing which puzzles me.

    Front wheel clonking

Yeah, you know how it goes though, deny, deny, deny, it was already like that sir. But I was more thinking along the lines of mechanical suggestions!

    Front wheel clonking

hi, I have a 2000 x reg 1.8 Freelander with 63k done. When i turn on full or near full right lock quite quickly round a slower corner (make sense?) I get a clonking noise from the front passenger side. I first got this the day after I had a manifold fitted by, as it turns out, the local butcher...

    Diff mounts

Just fitted the new mount. Had to drop the rear ones as well to enable the front to come out but still only took 45 minutes including the test drive and hand washing! Got a genuine LR part from Delgra 4x4 in Strood, Kent. Just £13.85 inc vat off the shelf. It has transformed the car, well...

Hi, I have a yr2000 1.8 Freelander with 58000 miles that clonks from the rear when i pull away...

Hi, I have a yr2000 1.8 Freelander with 58000 miles that clonks from the rear when i pull away, gentle use of the clutch can ease this. Ive read on here that the rear diff front mount is the likely suspect, so i had a look underneath. There is a black metal band attached to the transmission...

    battery change

Had this problem with my Freelander, u can try removing the bolt and gently prising the clamp apart a little then filing or cutting a bit of the inside away (on the flat surface where the bolt goes), thus making it smaller and therefore tighter around the (worn) battery post. Its very soft...

    Drive clonking

Holy Cow! I dont like the sound of that! I'll try to find the thread, thanks Just looked up that thread, doesnt sound like my problem, I have no metallic sounds or creaking or wallowing on the handling side. Just a dull thud/ clonk on drive take up, nothing in reverse or higher gears.

    Drive clonking

Hi, new member here, wonder if someone can advise me please. I have a 2000 X reg 1.8 gs freelander with 55,000 miles and 1 head gasket done. When I pull away, in 1st or 2nd gear there is a clonking noise from the rear of the car when the drive is taken up. Generally the faster the pull away...
