Hi,
I have a yr2000 1.8 Freelander with 58000 miles that clonks from the rear when i pull away, gentle use of the clutch can ease this.
Ive read on here that the rear diff front mount is the likely suspect, so i had a look underneath. There is a black metal band attached to the transmission tunnel above the diff which is indeed marked slightly in the centre as if the ridge on top of the diff has hit it. The prop and all uj's seem ok with no play.
The front mount does look shot, the bolt does not sit central as it does with the rear two. I can see the three bolts that hold it in place and can get at them ok, but it doesn't look like theres going to be room to remove the ally mount when Ive undone them.
Will it come out ok, or am i going to have to take half the car apart to get the damn thing out? Also is it ok to replace just the front mount or do i have to do all 3 at once, the rear 2 look fine.
Thanks for any replies

yes it will come out, i usually remove bolt from one of the rear mounts as this gives more freedom of movement, fit genuine l r part only as this is longer lasting.

Just fitted the new mount. Had to drop the rear ones as well to enable the front to come out but still only took 45 minutes including the test drive and hand washing!
Got a genuine LR part from Delgra 4x4 in Strood, Kent. Just £13.85 inc vat off the shelf.
It has transformed the car, well worth doing and pretty easy for any one fairly competent, bit of a struggle to realign the bolt holes but couldnt be bothered to fetch the trolley jack to support the diff, willpower alone held it up!
