Merry Christmas all! My lines are shot and leaking like hell. I'm a way off home, so will try get them replaced with hose. Does anyone know what hose pressure rating I should be aiming for? Thanks!

    No spark after rain.

I've tried plugs, but there's no spark on any of them and the leads are only 2 years old. I'll have another look at the coil and replace the cap. ta

    No spark after rain.

Whenever there's a big downpour, the V8 110 won't start, I'm getting all ignition lights and she's turning over fine, but I'm not getting any spark. I've WD40'd the HT leads, the connection to the coil and greased the wires of the amp and dizzy... and other suggestions?

Running rough after sitting dormant for a year

Hmmm, thought about the pump, will keep that in mind. Other thing I was wondering about was the coil. I may get another one out of course. Thanks for your help.

Running rough after sitting dormant for a year

Yeah, replaced the fuel a couple of times, she had about 20 litres through her now. Topped up the oil in the dampers. Tested all ht leads, has spark to all 8. I'm thinking now either re check the timing, although the gas here is **** and it was way retarded to run in the first place. Or...

Running rough after sitting dormant for a year

Hi all, and Merry Christmas, hohoho. I'm in a spot of bother and don't know what to do next. I'm out in Mexico, the v8 3.5 Defender has been sat here un used for a while. Last run 9 months previous and was fine. I started her up this time and would start ok with plenty of choke, but...

    Sticky Choke

I removed the rods, and the shaft into the butterfly turned with some effort. I'll take a look inside.

    Sticky Choke

The choke's got a bit sticky and now releasing the choke cable doesn't return the choke. I've cleaned the choke cable/spring mechanism from gunk, and it's ok, but I think the choke linkage inside the carb is gunged up. Is this an easy job or will I have to dismantle the carb?

    New dizzy advice...

The costs of a reconned dizzy from Simon @ BBC doesn't really make it worth my time getting the separate parts shipped over to rebuild mine. The inside was rusted to hell, I had the reluctor soaked in WD40 for a while before it came off the shaft with a big hammer, the reluctor is battered...

    New dizzy advice...

Hmmm, Mallorys not getting a lot of love across the internet. I may have to get a new 35DLM8 shipped out.

    New dizzy advice...

My dizzy needs replacing, it's there and working by god's will alone. I'm out in Mexico, so would be looking at sourcing a non-lucas dizzy. I've currently got a 35DLM8. What are my options re other makes. Will any V8 distributor fit? Is it just a case of removing the lower gear/pump mechanism...

Goddam the blasted thing to fffff! Electrics have gone now!

Got it. There's a connector coming back up from the starter motor that goes back into the cab. It had corroded slightly. Cleaned up and working a treat!

Goddam the blasted thing to fffff! Electrics have gone now!

Not sure at the time, I just brushed it to earth briefly. Although after that, all the red lights came on, all the ignition worked ok. And it started no problem and ran for the day. It was only when I flashed the headlights, it was almost like the surge was too much and it has tripped...

Goddam the blasted thing to fffff! Electrics have gone now!

OK. I've a split charge battery fitted > 10 months ago. I've also had a problem with the back of the ignition barrel popping out a bout 2 days ago, so I've been behind the dash and pootled about a bit getting the thing back into the back of the barrel, I did earth a contact bereifly during...

    3.5 v8 with su's will not run

Just a thought, and I'm no mechanic, but if you're only getting one bank, maybe the coil is not having chance to recharge, as the banks fire LRLRLRLR it's summoning up enough spark for one side then not sparking on the other, sparking, not sparking, sparking, not sparking. Just a thought.

Ok I give up... how do I change the idle speed?

Cheers Chris... So a cheeky half turn on the Fast Idle screw on each carb won't do it then? I'll check it out against this pdf... Thanks for the link.

Ok I give up... how do I change the idle speed?

on my 3.5 n/a V8 with SUs. I see the mix screw, I see the throttle pullies and the choke pully. How do I change the idle speed? The workshop manual I have is fecking useless. It goes on about positioning the cold start cams in line with a mark, that I can't find... I get lost at this point...
