Attention all TD5 Disco owners - radiator problem

Not if its done right mate. The plastic end tank sits on a rubber gasket. gently decrimp the tabs . When you come to refitting the tank place it onto the gasket & press down on it with one hand then tap the tabs gently with a hammer to make the ends & sides straight again. Now get a pair of...

Attention all TD5 Disco owners - radiator problem

I repaired one like this not so long back. I uncrimped the tank then fitted a bolt from the inside . fitting 2 fibre washers 1 inside 1 outside then fitted a nut job done.

    Radiator leak - eek!

How soon are you after one ? I have one from a 3.9 efi auto. Just in the middle of giving it a refurb. ie stipped both end tanks off to clean the tubes out properly not just flushed through. copper core is sound with no rotten fins. depends where you are though as they weigh a fair bit.

    Rad

Yes you can get one but it would need to be made as a one off.I think the disco core has something like 14 fpi [fins per inch] . If you went to say 7 fpi you would have bigger gaps. But it would reduce the cooling as the more copper on the tubes the better the cooling . The best way to clean...

    p38 cooling issues

You wont need a new rad . If its the ally core with the plastic end tanks take it to a rad place & ask them to decrimp it to check for the baffle. It will take half hour to decrimp & recrimp it.

Leaky intercooler - Leave it..or Fix it...??

The stuff i use flows like solder until its cured & 1 tear drop size piece is enough on most repairs so at £94 for a sealant size tube it pays for itself.

Leaky intercooler - Leave it..or Fix it...??

Air pressure test it under water then you will find any other leaks if it has any. I use a stuff for repairs on ally rads etc but at £94 a tube it aint cheap

Leaky intercooler - Leave it..or Fix it...??

The fins will be ally & they dont take much heat to melt them or the tubes.

    radiator steamin !

sounds like a tube seam has gone. biggest fault on any core is a seamed tube. get one with seamless tubes in. But i doubt a dealer would know either way which tubes they have in

    heater box referb

Nothing fancy. It was just an idea after reading this thread thats all. end of the day they are built the same as a rad core but with narrower tubes. I was just going to have a play & see what i come up with.

    heater box referb

yes could be done that way or better still a 4 row core as thick as the 2 heaters put together then just the 2 pipes as in your pic. And i know just the place to get the proper pipes from:D mmm thinks im going to have a play with this idea;)

    heater box referb

This has got me thinking:confused: Which way would you stick them together ? core to core or side by side ? All they are is a small 2row radiator core with a baffles in . would a copper core twice the size of the heater with brass tanks soldered on be much better do you think?;)
