    good stuff!! glad you got it going.if you haven't already, try greasing the dozen or so joints in the steering,if shes been lying for a while it will go stiff.mind you,you need arms like popeye to steer these bastards anyway,lol.

    i think you can test bi metal regulators by placing pos meter lead on output (of reg)and neg lead to earth (meter set to dc volts) you should see a "pulse" reading.

    you need to test the wiring/sender units etc.have you got a multimeter? (can be bought on ebay for just a few pounds and will pay for itself over and over).

    defo check earth. renew cable even if it looks ok. most starting probs are linked to poor earth.corrosion between cable termination and engine/chassis can cause all symptoms you mention.

    this is on the transfer box right? just above where the propshaft fits.if it is thats the shaft that governs whether you have selected high or low ratio.looks to me as if your linkage is broken and you may well be stuck in low.

    eliminate tank probs by gravity feeding carb directly from a can.if it runs ok then you know its the pump/line/tank.you can use the same method to pinpoint the exact cause(if it is a fuel prob)
