    Securing the load area

I would suggest one of those van locks for the back door. It is two plates that overlap with a circular padlock that locks into place. They are very hard to cut and also will not rattle and cause damage to paintwork. They also llok rather neat and should not attract too much attention. Also I...

    Turbo Interference

Yeah on mine the compressor body is held on by a large internal circlip. Have now managed to modify my circlip pliers (they would only open to 3cm and neaded 3.5 so gorund the arms down slightly) and have now taken the casing off. Thought about tapping it round with a mallet as suggested but a -...

    Turbo Interference

I agree Am moving down the turbo mod line. Current idea is to take the compressor housing off (nead to get some larger circlip pliers - mine died vialiantly trying) And rotate it about 90 degrees clockwise (looking from the front) so that the outlet is coming out at 7 oclock rather than 4...

    universal cigarette lighter??

Also worth considering buying a multisocket (the kind of thing you see in petrol stations etc that is designed to plug into your existing plug socket) and then just wiring it in seperately. I have done this and kept it live all the time (make sure you fuse it though) as with sat nav and...

    cubby box heater

When it gets really cold here (-30 and below - Bulgaria) I put my petrol genny in the back of the 110 (with exhaust extension) and run a 240v 3kw fan heater. Run it off the mains for about 30 mins before setting off and then run it on the genny while out and about. Nice and toasty warm and...

    Rebuild

The landrover is now fully stripped. Have left the engine in the chassis as cant think of any good reason to take it out. The chassis is generally in good condition with the addition to the required list of the nearside bulkhead outrigger which is notperfect so may as well change while it is...

    cubby box heater

Cant see why this should not work. Dont use a mk2 golf matrix as they are pretty weak - a mk3 is the same size and much stronger. Only possible issues I can see is you are halving the flow through each heater which may reduce the effectiveness and also the chance for an air lock in it when...

    Turbo Interference

Have started the rebuildof my 110 and as part of the project am converting it to LHD as that is how we drive here (bulgaria) I have all the necessary components but have one minor problem. The 110 is fitted with a discovery 200tdi and the steering shaft (the one connecting the steering box...

    Rebuild

After having a search under my landrover to inspect a bar ball joint I was shocked to see the state of te chassis. Rear cross memberand body outriggers need replacing. I have decided this is the excuse I need for a rebuild so it is now in the garage being dismantled. Wish me luck!!

    Drivetrain Slack

I have a clunk in the drive train when changing gear. I am suspecting that it is play in the front axle. Planning on jacking the landy up this weekend and checking for slack. Any advice on what would bethe best procedure and how much is acceptable slack in components? I noticed the other day...

    Defenders in accidents....

The best thing about defenders (in my opinion) is that they look almost as good with battle scars as without. Generally in an accident there will be little damage to the defender as long as it hits something smaller or around the same size and the point of impact is around chassis height...

    Clutch!!!

The clutch has started slipping on my 110.. Four quick questions: Is it worth checking anything or do I just assume the clutch is dying (150k)? It has just started slipping on acceleration uphill when full. If I take it easy is it likely to last another month? Any experience on here of the...

    head light adj

Just put the landy up against a wall on a flat piece of ground and shine the lights on it. Adjust them so with dipped beam they are shinning a spot (at 2 feet distance) approx 2 inches below and an inch to the left of the height and centre of the centre of the light. This is what I have always...

Could be a write off :(

The thing with landies is they love snow but not ice. Insurance companies generally like to write cars off and I doubt they will agree with the 7 grand value cos they is gits. I would imagine you are looking at more like 4k and 1k off to buy it back. You are looking at about 600 to buy the...

    Ply Lining Kits

Is easy to do yourself 6mm ply for sides and roof and 12mmor thicker ply for the floor. I put in a full bulkhead in behind the front seats too.I used the foam u buy for under laminate floor for under the ply and it keeps it warm, dry (no condensation) and is quieter. Silicon seal the joints...

Depends on how much you are carrying and on what surface you are driving. I would start at 30 and go up or down depending on above and feel. Andy
