Hi - need to replace cigarette lighter in my 1988 defender, can I use one of the "universal fitment" ones off e-bay for about a fiver?
My old one is completely knackered, but it looks as though there were 3 spade connections on it - 2 on the main body of the socket, and one on the bulb holder.
The e-bay ones appear to have 2 spades on the body and 2 on the bulb holder - does this mean that the bulb holder is earthed separately and I just need to get that extra black wire to ground???
Also - which wires would attach to the main body of the socket??
In the dash where the socket mounts I would appear to have a black, green, purple, and red/white stripe wire available.
I'm pretty sure the red/white stripe one is for instrument illumination so will go to the bulb holder....but should I be using green or purple on the socket bit?
Any advice would be appreciated!!!
